The PD0800 from HP is a USB powered hard drive which comes in a portable case allowing you to switch it easily between locations and computers. If you own a HP Pavilion desktop PC with a HP pocket media drive you can just slot the drive in to the PC like you would a cassette in to a tape deck. For others, its just a matter or connecting the drive to a spare USB 2.0 port. With the drive being USB 2.0 compliant, it allows for fast transfers of data.

Bob Machine – Your Desktop Buddy
Bob is a machine which sits on your desk. If you are bored and need something to fill your time with then you switch him on and he just whizzes around your desk hitting anything in site while trying to entertain you. Bob runs on 4 button cell batteries or 1 4LR44 type batteries and can provide some entertainment through a boring day at work.
Bob machine costs 14.99 GBP and available from Need a present. Unfortunately this could well be one of those toys that ends up being used and abused for the first week and then left on the desk to gather dust??
Hovercraft Office Chair
Hover around your office on the hovering chair
Yep, I am sure you know this isnt actually real but it is still fun to mention. The hovercraft chair is an idea put forward by someone over at ideawicket and is basically a chair that hovers with a large fan under it. The crazy idea behind this is to allow for more fun at the office and give a faster way to travel around places. To control the chair you just lean forwards or in which ever direction you want to go. I guess in a similar way to how you control a segway but in this case you are sat down and floating.
TomTom the SatNav Gurus file Cool Patent
SatNav with real time video of the street ahead
TomTom have been in the SatNav industry for a while now. I owned one of their first navigation pieces of software a few years back for my Cassiopeia EM500 Pocket PC. I was amazed at the 3D maps and how they could rotate as you changed direction. However, thats all old school now as TomTom have filed a cool new patent which allows for actual video footage to be displayed on the screen of the SatNav and then the line of the route you take is superimposed on top of the live video. This is an excellent way to go as you actually will see what you are supposed to rather then a guess at what exit you should be taking when the regular maps are not quite clear.
Download your PSP Games – Almost
Download Sony PSP Games Legally in the future
How would you like to be able to download games for the PSP rather then purchasing the UMD from a shop? It seems like this is the way Sony is moving with the latest firmware releases for the Sony PSP. Both 3.50 and 3.51 versions were opened up and found to contain a module named np9660.prx which is an official ISO loader made by Sony which can load encrypted ISO files from a memory stick. Also you might be aware of a new download service that is being made available by Sony later this year. This could mean that PSP games will be downloadable in the future, hopefully cutting costs and increasing load times with them working right from your memory stick.
Memory sticks were quite small in capacity a few years back when the PSP was launched, but in the last few months we have seen some nice capacity memory sticks which should allow for several games to be stored on them.
This is only rumor at the moment, but with finding the module in the firmware it is a good indication of what could be available in the next few months.

Personal Homing Device
Stop loosing personal belongings and find them with this homing device
If you tend to loose a lot of things like your keys, books, friends and any other item you can stick a mini tag on then pick up a personal homing device. The homing device comes with tags which you fit to your key ring or stick to objects that you loose frequently. You can then track the object using this device up to 183m away with in 2.5cm of where the object is actually sat. Thats is quite impressive. The personal tracker also has an LED flashing light which helps you to track your stuff in the dark.
Watch YouTube in ASCII
Warren Harding has designed a program that allows you to watch YouTube videos in ASCII text. It was a test to see if he could access youtube without a nice GUI. He literally created a program which has all the menus and you just choose the video you want to play and it converts it in to ASCII text right on screen.
The Operating System running this is Linux Fedora 6 and it uses a lynx based browser to search for the videos. Check out the video of it working after the jump.
Landscape Lights
LEDs change the colour of your House
If you ever want to illuminate your house then spotlights is one way. Another option is to use LEDs which can switch colours and change the look of your home at night. As well as being able to light up your house, they can also light up the landscape around the home. The LEDs are easy to connect up and are ready to go once positioned in the right place. More pictures after the jump.
Scratch this iPhone – A Virtual iPhone
Practice your scratching skills on a pretent iPhone
If you havent been in the queue on the east coast and picked up an iPhone 13 minutes ago then you can have a go of this virtual iPhone. This pretend phone doesnt actually allow you to play with any features though. Instead it allows you to mess up the screen, scratch and put fingerprints all over it. Its just for fun. 😉
The actual iPhone does have a glass screen which is supposedly better for keeping clean and scratch free.
SnowVolution – Never Ending Ski Slope
Ski forever indoors
SnowVolution is a concept which tackles the problem of indoor skiing and the slope basically ending too quick. It is a snow covered rotating planar disc which is up to 300 meters is diameter and set on an incline. 5 – 6 discs are combined which rotate independently of each other up to speeds of 15 meters per second. With the discs rotating you effectively have an endless slope to ski on and with the position of the discs and way they rotate, it can cater for many people skiing giving plenty of space for all.
iPhone Hacks – What do you want to see
iPhone is coming today! What iPhone Hacks do you want to see?
After several months of waiting, the iPhone will be launching at 6pm tonight in the US. Wired put out the question today about iPhone hacks and what people want to see should they want more from their expensive iPhone. Suggestions such as Skype, MP3 ring tones, Instant Messaging, iPod and Internet without a phone plan and quite a few more have been mentioned. No doubt we will see an ongoing battle between the hackers and Apple like we do with the PSP and homebrew. Hopefully some decent apps can come out for the iPhone to make it in to an even more useful device. The collection of all programmers and Apple could make the good even better.
