Sony Ericsson W810

The new Sony Ericsson W810 is another mobile in the Walkman range of phones which I think are very good. It is the son of the W800 which was another excellent phone. The W810 improves on some of the bad parts of the W800 which were not that many. It has a new joystick and the mobile internet is changed. The colour of the phone is changed from White to Black. It is the familier Orange colour which we are used to seeing in this range of W phones.

A 512Mb memory card is included which is changeable for an even larger one. A downside is the slow USB connection to a PC. The cable is included but it doesnt perform how we would all expect. However, who really cares about the USB connection speed ๐Ÿ™‚ I have never used it yet. Always use Bluetooth or a card reader.

Self Driving VW Golf

This new “prototype”… the VW Golf GTi ’53 plus 1′ (53 because it’s the original Herbie 53) is capable of driving it’s self through 2 eyes (radar sensors). It can accellerate up to speeds of 150MPH, screech around corners, avoid collisions and beat the VW test drivers around their own track.

It works with GPS technology also which can track the vehicle down to the nearest inch (although I thought GPS couldnt only track with in a few meters on the current US system). Maybe when galileo gps becomes available it could really track with in an inch.

Anyway, it sounds impressive and if things continue as they are with the big brother type systems then all of us might be able to kick back and let the car drive us to where we need to go in a few years time.

TV Fish Tank

How does an old tube type television converted in to a fish tank sound? Most people would destroy the tube in the process which could cause injury. This link shows how someone made it possible ๐Ÿ™‚ So, it doesnt really need you to take appart the TV tube, but they suggest you have a professional take the TV appart to avoid having to touch the capacitors and stuff.

Konica Minolta – Organic EL Display

Liquid crystal display (LCD) is widely used for flat panel displays due to its
attractive appearance when compared to CRT and PDP displays. The disadvantage of using LCD is that a back light is required separately. An organic EL display with light emitting properties will allow technology to evolve and erase the need for the separate back light. Organic EL can also be manipulated to be a thinner, lighter and more energy efficient than its LCD counterpart.

This is why the new organic display from Konica/Minolta is so exciting. It is definitely a step in the right direction! The current prototype has a luminance of 1,000 cd/m2. No news has been revealed if this will hit production any time soon but konica/Minolta will surely be drawing attention to their pioneering research and development of this type of material. Their website holds more information on the differences of LCD and organic EL materials and the science that will bring us the next generation of technology. [konica website]

Microsoft Backlit Keyboard

Microsoft have launched a nice looking backlit wireless keyboard to the market. It is dubbed the “ultimate keyboard” so it must either all be hot air… or something spectacular. Well… how spectacular can a keyboard get after the laser projected keyboard reviewed a while back ๐Ÿ™‚

Ay any rate, it seems to be a Bluetooth based system that includes a fancy backlight system that can measure ambient light and adjust accordingly. It even knows when you have stepped away and switches off the light to save power. Cant be bad! I might have to get one of these ๐Ÿ™‚

LG Super 3G Widescreen Slider Phone (LG-SGH100)

LG have launched the Super 3G widescreen slider phone named the LG-SGH100. They are also releasing the LG-KH1000 which both look like nice new additions to the market. My first impressions are that this will sell because of the wide screen offering. The slider both slides down or across so that the phone can be used in widescreen mode. The phone comes with 2Gb Flash and 1Gb SDRAM or 512Mb of flash with 256Mb SDRAM. Thats a lot of storage packed in there! It has a 1.3 Mega pixel camers, a 2.2″ screen. The phone weighs just 125g.

Digital Clock T-Shirt

Kind of cool in a weird way is the new digital clock t-shirt. It’s basically a standard t-shirt with a big digital clock built in the front. How many of you think that a wearer of one of these is in for the typical cheesy jokes that can be associated with one wearing this ๐Ÿ™‚

It is powered by 4 AAA batteries hidden away and lasts about 1.5 – 2 days at a push. It can also be switched off should you want to save power for later.
