LG Optimus Pad Arrives in the UK

LG has launched the LG Optimus Pad in the UK. The device runs the Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system and has an 8.9 inch display. The processor running that tablet is an NVIDIA Tegra 2 Dual-Core.

A unique feature of the Optimus Pad is that it utilises dual cameras on the back which each can capture at 5 megapixels. By combining both cameras together, 3D video is capable of being captured on the device.

Samsung Has Announced a 2560×1600 Display

Samsung has announced a new display that measures 10.1 inches and crams 2560×1600 pixels on to the screen. The display has a DPI of 300 and comes close to the DPI of the Retina display used in the iPhone 4. The new screen will be on display on May 17-19 at the SID Display Week in the LA Convention center.

The technology used on the screen is LCD and with that pixel density of 300 DPI, it allows more clarity in small text which makes reading, browsing and over tablet based activities a little better.

Google Chromebook Coming to Three UK

Three UK has been selected as a 3G connectivity partner for the new Google Chromebooks that were announced earlier this week.

Over on the Google Chromebook website we see that several options are available for 3G subscription services. Three will be offering plans that start at £2.99/month and move up to £25/month all dependent on how much data you need and want.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Gets Android 2.3.3 Update

Galaxy Tab owners are in for a treat as Samsung has begun rolling out the Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread update to the tablet. The rollout is happening now in Italy and is available through Kies. When installing, you’ll see the P1000XXJQ1 and P1000XXPZ updates available.

Microsoft to Buy Skype

Microsoft has announced that it is buying Skype. The deal will see Microsoft pay $8.5 billion in an all cash deal.

The acquisition will increase the accessibility of real-time video and voice communications, bringing benefits to both consumers and enterprise users and generating significant new business and revenue opportunities. The combination will extend Skype’s world-class brand and the reach of its networked platform, while enhancing Microsoft’s existing portfolio of real-time communications products and services.

Android 3.0 Gets Google Earth

Google has launched a new version of Google Earth for Android. The new and updated version has been designed to take advantage of the new processors found in Android 3.0 tablets. As well as using the new processors more efficiently, Google has also optimised the software to be more compatible with the larger screen devices.

Stylus for HTC Flyer to Cost $79.99

One thing that makes the HTC Flyer different to other tables being launched is the stylus that can be used with it. The stylus is called the HTC Digital Pen and allows users to interact with the Android tablet by scribbling on the screen while any app is open.

We find out today that the price has been revealed for the digital pen and when launched it will cost $79.99 over at Best Buy.

Android Market Catching Apple App Store in Size

In the next few months, it’s expected that the amount of apps available in the Android Market will overtake those available in the Apple App Store. The date this will happen will more than likely fall in August 2011 if the current trends continue.

By August, Google will have around 425,000 apps in the store available for download. What is important to note with this is that although there will be more apps available, it doesn’t necessarily mean that Android apps will make more money for developers.
