Apple Patent Hints at Slimmer iPhone Future

Apple has filed an interesting patent that suggests they could be looking at using the regular 3.5mm and 2.5mm headphone/headset jacks, but also hints that the connection port could one day be thicker than the device its self.

The iPhone 4 measures 9.3mm in thickness and the new iPad 2 measures 8.8mm. Both of these form factors can easily fit a 3.5mm headphone jack. The problem will come in the future though as Apple find ways to slim down the next generation devices. At some point, they will get close to or slimmer than 3.5mm and when that happens, you’d think that they would just use a proprietary connection rather than standard. [Read more…]

Windows Phone 7 Yahoo! IMAP Bug Fixed

When Yahoo! launched its implementation of IMAP for Windows Phone 7, it was quickly noted that there were issues with bandwidth usage caused by the app. Due to some errors in coding, a lot more data was being transmitted than actually was needed which in turn, caused a lot of users monthly allowances to be used up.

At the time this was first spotted, it was recommended to switch the collection frequency to further apart, or set to manual to avoid the automatic checking utilizing all the available bandwidth. [Read more…]

64GB iPhone 4 Video Hands-On

Yesterday, a 64GB iPhone 4 was spotted. The device is believed to be an official prototype model, perhaps direct from the Foxconn factory in Shenzhen. On the back it is identified as having XXGB although a look in the settings reveals it is actually 64GB.

What is believed to be happening here is that Apple could be looking at introducing a larger capacity iPhone 4 in the near future while perhaps dropping off the 16GB model. It is unclear at the moment. What we could also be seeing is a fake although it does look convincingly real from the quality of the glass and components inside, down to how the iOS runs. iTunes 10.2.1 has become available for the Mac in the last few hours. This update comes very shortly after the 10.2 update. The only information provided shows that the 10.2.1 update prepares iTunes to sync with the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad when using iOS 4.3 although 10.2 also was released for this purpose. [Read more…]

Along with the launch, we also know that the Personal Hotspot feature will be launching, although a chargeable service in most cases.

Another interesting bit of information comes, thanks to BGR, in saying that the rumored 3 Wireless Users limit is actually not a hard limit and that the iPhone 4 supports up to 5 users being connected. However, it is up to the carrier to decide what the limit is. By default it is set at 3, but can be lifted if the carriers so wish. [Read more…]

24 Hours of Battery on New Lenovo X220

The X220 and X220 convertible laptop/tablet have been announced by Lenovo. The new devices show some quite impressive numbers, especially where battery life is detailed. We see in the press release that users can expect up to 24 hours of use on a single charge which puts them far above other similar devices already available on the market.

Lenovo also claim that performance is about 75% better than other ultraportable devices.

Back to the battery, one thing to note is that this isn’t the regular battery that comes supplied. Instead, you get 15 hours out of the standard 9-cell battery and if you hook up an external battery, it further adds another 9 hours on to the total life. Either way, 15 with the regular and an extra 9 with the external is still excellent. [Read more…]
