Canon are launching a new Lens named the TS-E 17mm f/4L for it’s DSLR cameras. Not much could be found out about it over at PMA but SlashGear managed to get a quick sneak peek on how it looks and what it is capable of.
The lens’ claim is that it’s the shortest focal length (tilt-shift). It uses Canon’s TS revolving system that allows shifting to be done at right angles or parallel with detents at 45Ëš. Once the shifting is set the lens can be rotated 90 degrees each way allowing for 180 degrees in total rotation.
In a nutshell, the TS lens shift movement avoiding the converging lines from a low to high perspective while tilt movement allowing one to further control the depth of field. Additionally, the new TS-E lens features high-precision glass molded Aspherical and UD glass elements with Canon’s new sub-wavelength coatings; thus, there are no shortage of superior optics elements in design, which is very important for lenses with wide angles coverage.
The lens it’s self, when launched, will cost just short of $2500.
