Olympus Introduce a Collapsible Wide-Angle Zoom lens in Micro Four Thirds

Olympus have unveiled a new collapsible Wide-angle zoom lens in the micro four thirds format. The new lens is called the M Zuiko Digital and has a range of 9 to 18mm (18-36mm equiv) with F4-5.6.

The lens is pictured above in the middle. When launched by Olympus it will cost around the $700 mark. Shipping is expected to start in May for the lens. The lens when opened up about doubles in length. Reviews of the lens indicate the out of focus highlights are ugly, but that the lens is very sharp. 3 new Nikon DSLR Cameras Coming Soon – Rumour

Nikon Rumors are reporting that potentially three new Nikon Digital SLR cameras are in the pipeline and getting ready to be launched. This could include a Nikon D4000 that will be an entry level camera.

A second camera is mentioned and is said to have 39 AF points, 16 Megapixels with a 6300 ISO + HI2 position, the ability to capture at 24 frames per second in 1080p and an optional MB-D11 grip.

The PRO DLSR has 51 AF points currently with the D90 having 11 AF points. This leads Nikon Rumors in to thinking the 39 AF points of the 2nd camera mentioned above makes it a replacement of the D90 or a new product that fits somewhere inbetween the D90 and the Pro. [Read more…]

Phantom Flex Captures full HD 1080p at 2800 Frames Per Second

There’s a few cameras that come with the ability to capture video at a silly amount of frames per second rate nearing the 1000 mark and slightly above. However, such cameras normally work at a really low resolution of double digit resolutions.

The Phantom Flex is different in that it can amazingly capture up to 2800 frames per second at a Full HD resolution (ie, 1080p or 1920 x 1080 to be exact). That’s some impressive stuff there and certainly grabs out attention.

The sensor is capable of capturing 4K images at 1560 frames per second. Capturing some still respectable images with a 640 x 480 resolution you can then capture at a rate of 6300 FPS. [Read more…]

Flip Slide HD Official

Cisco have now made the Flip Slide HD camera official. Cisco managed to change a number of features to make using the camera a better experience. On the front you’ll find a large 3 inch resistive touch display that is home to all the devices controls (previously physical buttons were used). The Flip Slide HD also slides open to reveal a capacitive touch slide where you can swipe through movies you have captured.

Cisco have added a 3.5mm headphone jack to the Slide HD along with a HDMI output. The camera can capture at 720p HD resolutions (same as the Mino HD). There is no image stabilisation on this model of the camera though.

Storage has also been increased and can now capture up to 16GB of video which equates to 4 hours of uncompressed and 12 hours of compressed video. [Read more…]

Flip Slide HD Sold Early at Best Buy

Last week we came across leaked pics of the new Flip Slide HD camcorder built by Cisco that was spotted in a Best Buy store. From what we saw it appears to flip open to reveal a larger screen. Thanks to Best Buy selling the Slide HD early to one customer we now have the full picture on what the Flip Slide HD is and how it works.

The device actually just has 1 large touchscreen across the face of the device. When recording the screen is split in to two where the top side is taken by the screen and the bottom side has touchscreen controls. When sliding the Slide HD open, the full screen is then used for displaying videos that have just been captured. A slide control can then be found under where the screen flipped out from that allows you to slide through the video you have captured. [Read more…]

Flip Slide HD Video Camera Spotted at Best Buy

An anonymous tipster dropped an image of a new camera by Cisco in to Engadget’s inbox recently. We heard rumours last month on March 11 that Cisco were going to be making an announcement this month (as in April) about a new Flip camcorder they were to soon launch. The pictures captured at Best Buy indicate the new Flip camera is to be called the Flip Slide HD.

From what we see (and unfortunately the photographer blocks part of the main picture of the device) it’s a slider device that appears to have a screen that opens up I guess to reveal controls, or perhaps a keyboard. The Slide HD also looks to have a screen about double the size of the previous Flip HD camera that takes up more of the panel. [Read more…]

Canon EOS T2i / EOS 550D Reviewed at DPReview

Just a few days ago we came across a few sites that had done reviews of the Canon EOS T2i digital SLR camera. The T2i is also known as the EOS 550D and is Canon’s latest digital SLR camera to hit the market.

The camera it’s self is hard to categorise as it takes features of higher end cameras, puts them in the body of a 500D and comes in as as entry level camera but at a higher price.

DPReview have uploaded a massive review (I’m talking 30 pages long massive here) to give the full run down of what the camera can do and what it is capable of doing. [Read more…]

Canon EOS T2i Review Roundup

We are finally seeing some Canon EOS T2i reviews in full depth rather than a few comparisons between two cameras etc….

Photography Blog are the first site we came across who have given the camera a “Highly Recommended” award with 4.5 out of 5 stars for rating. They say it is built well (but not quite as well built as the Canon EOS 7D) and sum it up by saying “As far as we are concerned, we have found the Canon EOS 550D / Rebel T2i to be a convincing, well-put-together product that easily earns a Highly Recommended rating.” [Read more…]

Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit Ready for Pre-Order

Apple [AAPL] in the US now have the iPad Camera Connection Kit available for pre-order on their website with a price tag of $29. In that price you get a couple of iPad camera connection devices.

When connected an application automatically loads up displaying thumbs of images that are available on the camera or iPhone to download. You can then select what you want to copy over. Images are then synced with your PC or Mac is required.

The next connector is almost the same but instead of connecting the camera direct to the iPad it features an SD card slot allowing images to be read directly from the memory card containing pictures. The same app (Photos) is opened up and the same interface. [Read more…]

Sony Alpha A200 Taken Apart

After receiving a slightly beat up, but unrepairable Sony Alpha A200 digital SLR camera, one guy decided he might as well just take the whole thing apart to see what was inside and how it all worked.

Amongst various circuit boards and small ribbon style cables attaching all the various aspects of the camera together, a few interesting things were found such as a sensor (or card) seems to move around for auto stabilising shots.

To see the full tear down with a number of comments about what is where, check out English Russia who have all the shots captured and detailed somewhat. [Read more…]
