Canon EOS 1Ds MK IV Rumoured

Rumours about a new updated Canon EOS 1Ds MK IV have started today saying that the new DSLR camera will feature a larger sensor taking it from 21 megapixels up to 32 megapixels.

The rumour also says that the new DSLR could be announced as early as next week. No other spec details are available at the moment although Canon Rumours do mention that new information is due in over this weekend.

The next rumour from the same post indicated that the Canon EOS 60D will not be announced next week, possibly due to Canon focussing on a high-end camera launch. [Read more…]

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX5 and DSC-H55 Announced

Sony [SNE] have announced a couple of new cameras called the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 and the DCS-H55.

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX5

The Sony DSC-TX5 is a waterproof camera that is also described as Sony as being the world’s thinnest and smallest certified waterproof camera. It can be dropped in up to 10 feet of water without suffering any damage. Features on the TX5 include Optical SteadyShot that stabilises images. The camera has a 10.2 megapixel sensor and is the first Sony camera to use a new CMOS sensor called Exmor R that is certified to be freeze proof down to 14 degrees F. As well as being waterproof, the camera can also withstand dust and shock from a drop of about 5 feet.

Video on this camera can be captured in HD at 720p format and as it’s waterproof it also allows you to capture HD video and pictures in 10 feet of water for up to an hour at a time. [Read more…]

Flip MinoHD Teardown

iFixit are well known for tearing down gadgets. This time they decided to take apart the not so new Flip MinoHD to see what can be found inside it.

The usual tools were used to break the device apart which included a metal spudger, Phillips #00 Screwdriver, soldering iron, tweezers and the iPod opening tools.

The Flip MinoHD came apart quite easily from what we can see in the teardown with the initial casing being removed by taking out a couple of screws and then sliding the iPod opening tool around the casing in certain places. If you are planning on doing this to your own Flip MinoHD then make sure you follow the instructions step by step as in a few points of the tutorial they do give caution saying you need to hold the tool a certain direction to avoid damaging the casing. Samsung create a new CMOS HD Imager For Smartphones

Samsung have created two new CMOS image sensors called the S5K4E2 and the S5K5CA that are specifically built for mobile phones.

The new CMOS sensors are built with a smaller form factor than previous models allowing them to be squashed inside smaller phones as they are launched. As well as having a smaller form factor the CMOS sensors also can capture HD video at 720p.

The S5K4E2 imager measures 1/4 inch, 1.4 micron and can capture at 5 megapixels. The sensor can capture images from 15cm away from the lens up to infinity keeping objects in focus. The sensor can capture video up to 15 frames per second at full resolution. [Read more…]

New Panasonic LUMIX Digital Cameras Shipping Mid-March

Towards the end of last month, Panasonic announced five new digital point & shoot cameras that were to be scheduled for launch. Panasonic have now provided pricing and dates for four of the five cameras with dates set for mid-March.

Panasonic LUMIX DMC-TS2

The first camera on the list is the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-TS2 that is the companies newest rugged digital camera and is capable of capturing images and video in HD quality. The camera uses a format called AVCHD Lite that is developed jointly between Sony and Panasonic and allows for capture and storage of up to 720p from the camera. With the LUMIX TS2 being rugged it can also withstand shock up to a 6.6 foot drop as well as be dropped down to 10 meters deep water. Also the camera can withstand temperatures down to -10 degrees C and is dustproof.

The technical features of the camera show that has a wide-angle lens built in that is measured at 28mm and is capable of 4.6 times optical zoom. Other functions allow for face recognition, iA (Intelligent Auto) mode and other features from the general LUMIX range. The camera will launch mid March and cost $399.95. (pictured above). Canon EOS Rebel T2i Ready for Pre-Order

We first mentioned the Canon EOS Rebel T2i a few days ago and we noticed now that it is already available for pre-order.

The $799 (body only price) camera is Canon’s latest EOS Rebel camera to be launched that boasts some quite amazing specifications for falling in to the top of the entry level range of cameras. When a new camera launches the older model is typically retired although in this instance we hear that the EOS T1i is being produced throughout 2010. Right now it’s only about $15 cheaper than the T2i for the body only version although if both are on sale side-by-side, we expect some larger discounts to be applied soon. [Read more…]

Canon EOS T2i Announced

Ready for Pre-Order. Canon have released details of their latest EOS Rebel camera called the Canon EOS T2i. The new T2i will become the higher spec model in the lower-cost digital SLR camera range.

On to the technical specs we see it has an 18 megapixel sensor with the ability to use 9-point autofocus and a 63 zone dual layering metering system similar to like the EOS 7D camera has.

On the back of the camera is a 3 inch LCD screen that has a smudge resistive coating and is capable of showing live-view images. [Read more…]

G1 Removed from Panasonic Site in Canada – G2 Coming Soon?

The Panasonic Lumix G1 has been removed, completely, from the Panasonic site in Canada. Also reports of the camera being completely out of stock in Japan are leading people to think that a Panasonic G2 could be just around the corner.

The Lumix G1 was the first micro four thirds camera launched that used a digital interchangeable lens and was launched back in November 2008 along with a few lenses that included a 14-45mm f/3.5-5.6 lens (28-90 mm equivalent) and a 45-200mm f/4-5.6 (90-400mm equivalent). [Read more…]

Ikonoskop A-Cam3D Captures video in 3D 1080p

Ikonoskop have created the A-Cam3D that is capable of capturing 3D video at a 1080p resolution. Two video streams are captured simultaneously at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels in RAW files. Colour depth is set at 12 bits and video is captured in either 25 or 30 frames per second.

The a-cam3D weighs 2.8KG which includes the weight of the memory cartridge as well as the battery. [Read more…]

Canon EOS 60D and new Rebel Tipped for PMA Photography Expo

The PMA Photography Expo is just around the corner and a leak today makes mention that Canon could be showing off Digital SLR cameras with swivelling displays. Two new cameras were specifically mentioned which includes the Canon EOS 60D and a new Rebel which both are reported to feature an articulating LCD display to allow image capture at awkward angles.

The Canon 60D will fall in to the mid-range category of Canon DSLR cameras and the tipster mentions that the 60D will contain the same metal body of the EOS 50D along with the same 15 megapixel resolution although the sensor used to achieve that will be new. It is expected that the low-light sensitivity of the EOS 7D will be found in the 60D. [Read more…]

Ortery 3D Photography Booth Goes on Sale

The Photosimile 5000 is a 3D camera system built by Ortery that can capture photos of objects and create 360 degree representations of those objects. We first mentioned the Ortery Photosimile 5000 back in December last year although it has been in the making for almost two years… we now hear that it’s actually gone on sale costing $17,000.

The system works by placing an object on a turntable in the middle of a light box. A computer controls the rotation of the turntable and the position of the camera that slides along a track automatically. By capturing images from a number of angles you get a 360 degree representation of the object that can then be used on a webpage. [Read more…]

Samsung TL110 and TL105 Launched

Samsung have launched a couple of very thin point and shoot cameras that measure just 0.65 inches in thickness. The cameras are called the TL110 and the TL105.

Out of the two cameras the TL110 is the higher end with a 14.2 megapixel sensor and a lens capable of 5 times optical zoom while the TL105 has a 12.2 megapixel sensor and is capable of 4 times optical zoom. Each of the cameras has both optical and digital image stabilisation.

On the back of the cameras a 2.7 inch LCD display can be found. Scene selections can be set to automatic where the camera quickly scans the image and adjusts the settings accordingly. [Read more…]
