Samsung Fascinate Release Date is September 9 – Confirmed

Several rumours have pointed to September 9 as the release date for the Samsung Fascinate. This has now been confirmed on an advert pictured above.

The Samsung Fascinate is a Samsung Galaxy S class smartphone that will launch on the Verizon [VZ] network. The advert is embedded below although the advert showing below is the older version with just a “coming soon” as the release date. The one that is available on TV does specify the date. [Read more…]

Orange and T-Mobile To Allow Access Across Networks

T-Mobile and Orange merged a while back and became “Everything Everywhere”. Silly name aside, the two networks still operate as single entities as in all T-Mobile customers get billed by T-Mobile and Orange customers are billed by Orange although the companies are both part of Everything Everywhere.

When the announcement was first made, the network said that they would by the end of this year allow roaming across both networks allowing you to have a better signal in areas if your own network was bad.

From 5th October, 30 million customers – the combined customer base of Orange and T-Mobile in the UK – will be offered the opportunity to access both networks, enabling them to make calls and send texts in more places in the UK for no extra cost.

Motorola DROID 2 Has Lowest Return Rate on Verizon

BGR has been informed by a connect that the Motorola DROID 2 on Verizon [VZ] has the lowest return rate of any phone on the same network.

It seems from the details that a number of people are happy with the DROID 2 and wont be returning it any time soon. We also hear that although there is an antenna issue, that the DROID 2 also has the lowest drop call rates on the Verizon carrier. [Read more…]

Android Gains Market Share in Mobile Browsing

Quancast has published new data that shows Android Mobile traffic from the browser is catching up with Apple iOS devices.

The share of Android mobile web traffic in the US climbed to 25% last month. This jump represents the largest gain since November of last year.

In total the Android OS mobile web traffic gain was an extra 2% while the other mobile traffic numbers tracked for Apple, RIM and the “other” category saw a slight decline. [Read more…]

iOS 4.1 Release Date – September 8

Over the past weekend, the Apple site in the UK briefly mentioned that the iOS 4.1 release date would be September 8 which puts it at this Wednesday. Shortly after though the date was pulled with a Coming Soon message being in place.

It isn’t clear if you’ll be able to grab the new update this Wednesday. If not then it will be sometime this week at lease as Steve Jobs confirmed it at the Apple [AAPL] event held last week. [Read more…]

Angry Birds Android Beta Lands

Rovio has launched Angry Birds for Android devices. The new app is still in beta testing stages.

By porting the already iPhone/iPad successful game to Android, the company behind it allow mllions more users to potentially download and buy the game.

“And Angry Birds have landed on Android:-)” the company said, adding “If you have any problems with the Android beta, let us know. It’s a beta, so we know it’s not perfect. Help us make it better.”

iPhone 3G iOS 4.1 Speed Test

Steve Jobs mentioned in the Apple [AAPL] special event held earlier this week that the iPhone 3G iOS 4 speed problems have been fixed with iOS 4.1. The iOS 4.1 release date is next week which brings a number of fixes such as speed fixes and proximity sensor fixes to the iPhone 3G, 3GS and iPhone 4.

Although iOS 4.1 isn’t available for download just yet to the average iPhone user, it is available to developers. LifeHacker decided to run a test on an iPhone 3G running iOS 4.0 and iOS 4.1. As they only had one iPhone 3G to test with, the tests were not done side by side although the tests were practically identical in terms of what the user was doing. [Read more…]

Samsung I5510 Running Android 2.2 at IFA

Over at IFA the Samsung I5510 smartphone was spotted. The I5510 is a QWERTY slider phone that was seen to be running Android 2.2 at the Vodafone booth.

Price wise, the Samsung I5510 will cost 200 Euros. It has a 5 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 3.0, Wireless networking, UMTS along with a microSD card slot for adding extra storage capacity to the device. [Read more…]

Sharp 3D Camera Phone Spotted at IFA

Sharp is launching a number of devices with glasses free 3D screens over the next few months. The new range of concept products had screens ranging from 3 inches to 10 inches in size.

One particular was the mobile phone pictured above that has a 3D screen on the front as well as a couple of cameras on the back allowing it to capture 3D images whilst on the move.

It is expected that the screen will work like those of the Nintendo 3DS which requires users hold the device in a certain place in front of them to get the 3D effect to be visible. [Read more…]

iPhone 4 Germany Moving to Vodafone and O2

The iPhone 4 in Germany could be moving to more networks after the holiday season. WSJ is reporting that T-Mobile in Germany is about to lose it’s iPhone 4 exclusivity agreement towards the end of this year.

This indicates that both Vodafone and O2 could be getting an iPhone 4 as early as next year. [Read more…]

Twitter for iPhone to get Push Notifications

It seems that Push notifications are coming to the official iPhone Twitter application. The image above shows the app being tested at Twitter internally where an option to enable notifications is presented on screen.

For those users (developers) who are running iOS 4.1, the option is already available from what we understand. When iOS 4.1 is released next week, it should allow those who run the Twitter app to enable push notifications once the OS is updated. [Read more…]
