iPhone 4 PDF Flaw has a Fix Ready says Apple

Apple [AAPL] has already managed to patch the security hole found in the iPhone 4 PDF function. This particular security hole allows software such as Jailbreakme to work that in turn, allows you to run the iPhone 4 jailbreak although there is also the possibility that malicious code could also be injected in to iOS with the security hole in place.

Apple will be releasing iOS 4.1 soon which will include a security fix within the PDF feature. In turn, this will also prevent the jailbreak from working for those who update to iOS 4.1.

Apple said in a statement… “We’re aware of this reported issue, we have already developed a fix and it will be available to customers in an upcoming software update.” [Read more…]

Clear iSpot 4G Hotspot for iPad and iPhone

The Clear iSpot is a mobile 4G hotspot designed to allow smartphones and tablets to connect to the internet at 4G speeds.

The device is designed for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and when those devices connect over a WiFi connection, they are then capable of accessing the internet at 4G speeds rather than the 3G speeds that currently can restrict them.

The iSpot is capable of allowing up to eight wireless devices to connect up to it and has been optimised for Apple [AAPL] products. We are not sure what that exactly means, but we assume any WiFi device with a fast enough connection will be able to get the same benefits from it. [Read more…]

Motorola Droid Android 2.2 Update Lacks Tethering and Wi-Fi Hotspot

The Motorola DROID Android 2.2 update is expected to start this week although the update will lack a few features that are to be found in other devices running the Froyo update.

Both tethering and the Wireless Hotspot functions will be missing for Droid users. The reasons for the lack of these two “wanted” features is due to the hardware not being capable of supporting it.

‘The Droid by Motorola doesn’t have [the] hardware to support a mobile hot spot, a Verizon spokesperson told MobileCrunch. ‘With tethering there is no connection on the PC side that will allow you to tether the device, so the answer is: That option isn’t part of this update.

iPhone 4 Jailbreak PDF Exploit – Apple Investigating

It was revealed this week that the iPhone 4 jailbreak uses an exploit found in the PDF code. When a web browser opens a PDF file, it allows code to be injected and executed which in turn, allows the jailbreak to happen. On the downside, the flaw in the PDF code also will allow malicious websites to link to PDF websites for other code to be injected that can actually cause harm to your iPhone 4.

Apple [AAPL], as expected, is looking in to the issue and we assume that by the time the iOS 4.1 update arrives in a few weeks time that the hole will be sealed preventing the iPhone 4 jailbreak in it’s current form from working for those who upgrade to iOS 4.1. [Read more…]
