iPhone 4 UK: Reserve a Contract iPhone for Collection on June 24

The Apple store might be down and not allowing pre-orders of the iPhone 4 in the UK, but if you head on over to the online retail store you can reserve an iPhone over there for collection. The good news with doing it this way is that you get 3 options when purchasing. You can select from PAYG, SIM Free or Contract. We just pre-ordered a contract model ready for collection in Brighton on June 24.

Unfortunately contract details are not readily available just yet, but as there is no real commitment other than logging in to the Apple website to let them know who you are, you can either just not show up, or just choose something different on the day of launch.

We suspect that when collecting and paying for your iPhone that you’ll be presented with all the network options so you can make a choice in store for what you want, and get it subsidised too. [Read more…]

Apple Store Goes Down under iPhone 4 Launch Pressure

It seems like a huge amount of people are trying to pre-order an iPhone 4 since the smartphone became available this morning. Right now the store is down and many errors have been seen along the order process with what seems to be few people actually managing to send Apple [AAPL] money.

Apple are obviously aware of this and hopefully will bring the site back up soon. In the UK we are still expecting carriers to update their pages and allow pre-orders, but for now we are just stuck with the “We’ll be back soon” message. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone 4 Pre-order – Best Stick to Apple Store

Engadget are hearing that Apple [AAPL] could be blocking 3rd party retailers from allowing pre-orders tomorrow as mentioned below…

We’ve been tipped that Apple may now be blocking third-party retailers from taking pre-orders altogether tomorrow. RadioShack already changed its story on us, and now Best Buy locations have started doing the same, telling us that they definitely won’t be taking pre-orders tomorrow but may be by the end of the week. Bottom line — hit up Apple’s website in the morning.

Wise advice we think as retailers are starting to give back word on pre-orders. [Read more…]

HTC EVO 4G Inductive Charging Mod Built with Palm Touchstone

Someone has managed to modify a Palm Touchstone wireless charger and Palm Pre back plate and make the necessary parts inside function in the HTC EVO 4G. The system allows the EVO 4G to charge by just resting the phone on the Touchstone charger.

The system was made by purchasing the necessary parts from Amazon. This includes the Palm Touchstone kit and back cover for $46. With a bit of hacking done on the back cover for the Pre the necessary parts were removed and put inside the EVO 4G and connected up in a way that allows it to charge wirelessly. [Read more…]

iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS Screen Comparison

One of the biggest features of the iPhone 4 from Apple [AAPL] is the new screen used which they call the Retina Display. The retina display has four times the amount of pixels when compared to the older iPhone models. This, according to Apple, makes it impossible to see the individual pixels when using the device at a normal distance away from your eyes.

There’s been a few complaints about Apple’s claim, but I think the picture above (larger below and even larger when clicked on) really shows what the new resolution is all about. We’ll wait until we see the iPhone 4 screen for ourselves, but from samples we have seen and side-by-side comparison pictures on the internet, it certainly looks very impressive. [Read more…]

As pictured above, you see that the bottom right corner of the screen is starting to fall away from the body of the EVO 4G. This problem according to a post on Android Forums has effected 80% of HTC EVO 4G smartphones.

That information came from Radio Shack who also sell the EVO 4G. The employee did comment that Sprint are replacing the handsets although due to 80% seeing the problem it isn’t known how long it will take to replace the device. [Read more…]

Apple Has Begun Accepting iOS 4 Apps

Apple [AAPL] is starting to accept applications designed and updated for the new iOS 4 that launches June 21.

At the moment there are no third-party apps on the iPhone that can multitask. This is because iOS 4 needs some code to be executed in the app to enable multitasking.

If developers decide not to upgrade their applications then those apps that are not updated wont be capable of being multitasked and instead, will just close out and re-open from scratch rather than opening from where they left off. Of course, not all apps will need to be multitask enabled due to what they do, but on the other hand, there will be many that we expect to see with the feature enabled. [Read more…]
