Three Types of Windows Phone 7 Series Planned

Windows Phone 7 Series will be made available on three types of chassis. The first called Chassis-1 are classed as the large touch-screen devices that have a 1GHz snapdragon processor. The next chassis, Chassis-2 are designed to look like Palm Treo devices and will feature a keyboard under the screen. Certain screen aspect ratios have to be used though which means the device will have to reach particular dimensions to get everything just right.

The final version which is Chassis-3 hasn’t been details although some are suggesting it will be a candybar style layout although if a slideout keyboard isn’t present in Chassis-1 or 2 then perhaps Chassis-3 will handle the slide out keyboards. [Read more…]

Street Figher 4 for iPhone Coming in March for $10

Street Fighter 4 will arrive on the Apple iPhone next month with a price tag of $10. The downside is that although it’s the 2009 game that you are getting, you’ll only be able to fight with 8 characters.

The eight characters included in this version of the iPhone game are Ryu, Ken, Guile, Blanka, Chun-Li, Dhalsim, M. Bison and Abel. From what we see in the game play footage, the graphics look amazing, as does the sound. I’m not sure how good an on-screen controller will be but I am sure we’ll find out more as reviews of the SF4 game for iPhone start appearing. [Read more…]

HTC Desire ROM now Ready for Nexus One

Last week we mentioned that someone had already started working on porting the HTC Desire ROM over to the Google [GOOG] Nexus One. At the time of writing that, the port wasn’t quite ready due to a few issues with memory allocations. We now hear that an Alpha version has been released.

As well as bringing Sense UI to the Nexus One, this Alpha release also brings flash 10.1 for Android to the phone. With it being in Alpha there are still a few niggles in the ROM that are still being worked out.

If you want to test out the Desire ROM on your Nexus One then you are in luck as some instructions have been created that take you through the process step by step. As always, just be careful not to brick your phone and do at your own risk. [Read more…]

Also an update to fix an LED error is also rumoured to be included in this next update. [Read more…]

Google Earth goes to Android

The Apple iPhone managed to get Google Earth quite a while back now. For some reason Google [GOOG] haven’t launched Google Earth on the Android until now.

If you are running Android 2.1 then you should see Google Earth available in the market ready to download and install as you so wish. The Android 2.1 version of Google Earth allows users to move around and explore the world in the palm of their hand. Gestures can be used to navigate around the globe such as swiping your finger to rotate the globe.

Included in Android Google Earth is all the same 3D imagery that you can find in the desktop version. As well as showing map data you can also search for various places and points of interest. [Read more…]

Palm webOS to hit T-Mobile

BGR received some interesting information to their inbox recently from a “solid Palm connect” that mentioned T-Mobile was in it’s final stages of planning their webOS device launch with Palm.

If the source is to be believed then T-Mobile will launch is similar to the Palm Pixi. Notice I said similar to the Palm Pixi, meaning it sounds like some modifications or a slightly different phone will be launched. [Read more…]

Sync Blocker Cable Prevents Un-wanted Sync’s of your Data

The Sync Blocker cable is designed to prevent the signals that allow your device to sync when it is hooked up to a computer. Reasons for using this cable would include using a USB port on another computer that someone else owns so that when you connect it all the syncing process doesn’t start automatically, or perhaps you only want to charge your device on an office computer and only sync at home.

A control key is included on the side of the USB connect which allows you to enable and disable Sync functionality so that your cable can be used both at home and out and about. [Read more…]

LG to Focus on Handsets that Run Windows Phone and Android

Mobile phone company LG in the past have focussed on their own operating system running S-Class. Although it worked quite well, it always had a few niggles inside that made it frustrating to use with some screen transitions not being as smooth as the iPhone for example. Their hardware for a long time has always been top notch though. Following their own OS they then switched to making Windows Mobile devices with the S-Class interface on top.

LG made an announcement that they are not in the market of developing their own proprietary OS. Instead, they will focus more on the handsets that will run either Google [GOOG] Android or Windows Phone 7 Series. This is good news as both the OS’s mentioned are being heavily developed by dedicated teams and in the terms of Android (the only one of the two currently available), it is making serious steps forwards in to becoming in the “top 3” mobile phone operating systems. Windows Phone 7 Series Development Docs Leaked

XDA developers is a good place to visit to find gems of information along with ROMS and what not. In this case, a user on the forums managed to get hold of the development documents that show what is required when developing applications for the new Microsoft mobile operating system.

What the document also confirms is that the phone will be capable of multi-tasking, or I should say re-confirms as this was already known.

Developers seem to be quite restricted in the OS and will need to use managed code that will be closely audited. Tools to develop on the system will be Visual Studio along with Expression Blend. [Read more…]

Windows Phone 7 Series Dial-Pad Spotted

Microsoft [MSFT] didn’t get to show off all of Windows Phone 7 Series for obvious reasons in that there’s only so much time allotted to present things and it could get a bit tedious showing every single variation of screen that might be used on a 7 Series smartphone. Also the operating system is in very early stages of development which could be the reason this dial pad looks so simple.

The dial-pad pictured shows the usual 12 buttons along with alpha characters above each number and a space above that to show what number is being dialled. It does look simple and might not be the final product although with Windows Phone 7’s being based around simple it might actually be the real deal. [Read more…]

Droid Eris Getting Android 2.1 OTA

Users on various forums are reporting that their Droid Eris Android phones are starting to receive OTA (over the air) updates bringing the Android version up to the long awaited 2.1. The update also includes the Sense UI from what users are saying.

However, there are problems in some cases with the updates with a few users saying that the update has completely wiped their phone while others are reporting that they are unable to log in to Google once the phone has been updated.

What we recommend you do is sit tight for a day or so to hear for other users thoughts on the updates. If you find that you can’t wait then I recommend making a quick backup of your phone data so you can restore everything when needed if all goes wrong. [Read more…]
