HTC HD2 gets a Camera Update – Fixes Distortions

HTC-HD2HTC have launched a software update for the HTC HD2 that aims to fix the camera problems that the model has had since launch. The update is described as being a Digital Picture Enhancement and was released just today.

The update from HTC provides clear digital pictures bringing it closer to HD then previous versions of the software.

HTC mention that you need to have ROM version 1.60.XXX.X installed, or lower which probably suggests that the next ROM update will include the new software as standard. [Read more…]

Rock Dock – NES Controller iPhone Dock

Nintendo-NES-Controller-iPhone-DockEtsy user GeekUnique has created a very unique iPhone Dock called the Rock Dock that users a Nintendo NES Controller to sit the iPhone on.

Each NES Controller iPhone Dock is handmade and carved out of a regular controller and has the docking port embedded in to the top of the controller. The regular wire found on NES controllers has been removed and replaced with a USB cable to connect the dock up to a PC allowing full syncing and charging of the iPhone. [Read more…]

HTC DROID Eris get an OTA Update

HTC DesireVerizon just let BGR know that an OTA (over the air) update is being made available for the HTC DROID Eris. The updates were being pushed put at midnight last night meaning that when you read this you might have a notification of a new update ready to be installed this morning. However, only a small group will first get the update today with other users getting the update as Verizon roll it out over the next few days.

The new ROM brings the Eris up to version 1.16.605.1 with an update to the radio taking that up to 2.32.40.11.09 which probably doesn’t mean that much to most people. Details of what’s included can be found below. [Read more…]

Orange App Shop Launched

Orange-App-ShopOrange have announced the launch of their new Application Shop which is available today. The Orange App Shop gives users one click access to thousands of handy applications. Although the application shop has been available for a while, they are now putting the App Shop on mobile phones rather than accessing through the web browser.

The App Shop is being made available on over one million phones in both the UK and France with millions more customers gaining access next year in 2010.

The program will be put on the home screen of phones and as Orange is a network rather than an OS, the App Shop will be multi-platform allowing users of many phones and OS’s to connect up and download applications they want. [Read more…]

Acer Liquid A1 Now Shipping in UK

acer-liquid-a1The Acer Liquid A1 has gone on sale in the UK at various online stores. Originally the A1 was reported as having a 1GHz Snapdrahon processor although looking at the specs now it seems Acer have clocked it at 768MHz to probably save on battery life.

The A1 Liquid has a 5 megapixel camera and a WVGA screen that can display 480 x 800 pixels and measures 3.5 inches. The screen is capacitive. The phone runs the Android 1.6 operating system. For connectivity is has Bluetooth 2.0 and wireless 802.11g as well as supporting both 2G and 3G networks. [Read more…]

Google Maps Navigation out of US Gets Blocked

Google-Maps-NavigationWe wrote a few weeks back about how to get Google Maps Navigation to work for Android users outside of the US. Navigation worked great and was very functional. However, as can be expected, Google have externally closed the loophole preventing users from using the service outside of the US. When loading up navigation now you get simple message saying “No Route Found – Navigation to your Destination Not Possible”.

The thread on XDA Developers explains what is happening and what their teams are trying to do to get around it again. Ideas currently being worked on include looking in to using a proxy server to give the appearance to Google that you are in the US although I am sure it will be another cat and mouse game where users create a way around the restriction and Google in turn, close it off. HTC Portfolio for 1H 2010 Revealed

HTC-LegendOver on XDA developers there’s an interesting thread that reveals upcoming phones for the 1st half of next year. Included in the set of phones are five Android based phones along with three devices running Windows Phone. Pocketnow wonder why only 3 windows phone’s were only mentioned and suggest it could be related to a second half 2010 release of Windows Mobile 7.

From the XDA thread we read that HTC has four categories of phone which includes Design / Lifestyle, Social, Performance, Productivity.

Lifestyle

Two phones listed in this category which are the HTC Legend and HTC Salsa.

Social

The social category also brings two phones which are called the HTC Tide and HTC Buzz.

Performance

The performance category gets one phone called the HTC Bravo.

Productivity

The final category called Productivity gets three phones called the HTC Photon, HTC Trophy and HTC Tera. [Read more…]

LG eXpo Projector Phone Reviewed

att_lg_expo_1LG surprised us recently with details of a new phone called the LG eXpo that also came supplied with a detachable Pico projector. The LG eXpo is a Windows Mobile 6.5 device that has the S-Class interface overlayed on to it. This brings the 3D cube menu system to the WM device as well as new menus, new contacts and a new virtual QWERTY keyboard.

From the video (seen below), you’ll see the phone seems to function well and be quite responsive. However, the big unique feature is that you can attach a small pico projector to the eXpo that allows a larger image of what’s on the screen to be projected on to the wall. [Read more…]

Motorola Sholes Tablet XT701 – More Pics

Motorola-Sholes-TabletYesterday we mentioned the Motorola Sholes Tablet that had a few images leak. We came across some more pictures yesterday that show the device in full along with a few more details that have been revealed.

The Sholes Tablet has been called the XT701 and is similar to the DROID without a QWERTY slide out keyboard. According to the source of this information the Tablet will run the Android 2.1 operating system when launched. Other features include a 3.7 inch screen, has a 5 megapixel camera and from what reports say, it runs very well. [Read more…]

New Nokia Symbian UI Revealed

nokia-symbian-UI_1Nokia have revealed pictures of the new Symbian UI and what they are planning to make it look like. Nokia have mentioned that for next year they are releasing just one Maemo smartphone and will be spending the rest of the time concentrating on the Symbian OS.

Nokia have said that the main problem with Symbian OS isn’t the OS it’s self, but actually the UI (User Interface). What Nokia are planning to do is reduce the number of taps you need to do to get around the menus. Rather than setting up an email address with 4 taps, it will reduce to 2 screen taps. Other menu’s and features will also get enhanced in the same way, such as easy access to music, photos etc… [Read more…]

Another Motorola Android Handset Spotted

moto-android-round-black1This morning we wrote about the Motorola Sholes Tablet that was spotted recently. Since writing about that, another Motorola smartphone has been spotted that runs the Android OS.

The name of the phone is not known at the moment, but from what a tipster at BGR has said, the phone will run an 800MHz processor, have a 3.8 inch display along with an 8 megapixel camera with a dual LED flash. [Read more…]

HTC Hero 2.1 Firmware Mentions Many Android Phones

Hero-Android-2-1If you remember the last few days you will have seen information revealed about a Hero ROM that leaked which turned out to be Android 2.1. Of course the firmware was quickly investigated and run on a phone to see what it was all about with a version hitting XDA Developers that can be downloaded now to your phone and tested.
