HTC Touch HD 2 to get Android

htc-touch-hdHTC are creating the Touch HD 2 and in a surprising move, they are going to be launching it running the Android OS rather than Windows Mobile 6.5.

The original Touch HD was first released running Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and it was expected that the second version of the phone would follow. Although a surprising move it’s not overly surprising as HTC have been using Android on a number of phones over the last year or so. Other phones running Android have been the original G1, the Magic and the Hero. [Read more…]

Nokia N900 Hands-On

Nokia-N900PC Mag managed to spend an hour or so with the new Nokia N900 so that they could test and see what it’s all about. The N900 is described as being a dramatic upgrade to Nokia’s internet tablets in that it actually is the right size to being a smartphone. It measures 4.4″ x 2.3″ x 0.7″ and although still not the smallest of smartphones out there, it is an OK size.

The 3.5 inch touchscreen has 800×480 pixels. It uses resistive touch rather than the more responsive capacitive touch type screen, but still works quite well. [Read more…]

Sharp 936SH Solar Phone

Sharp-936SH-SolarPanelThe Sharp 936SH is a clamshell style phone that has a solar panel on the cover. Technical specs show that it is a HSDPA/UMTS phone that has a 3 inch FWVGA LCD screen. An 8 megapixel camera can be found on the back that allows it to take some fairly decent photos. Interestingly enough, the phone is also water-proof with an IPX5/7 rating.

However, the main feature is the solar panel that is touted to give about 1 minute of talk time or 2 hours of standby for every 10 minutes of charge. You may think that just 1 minute of talk time for 10 minutes of charge isn’t too good, but when your stuck somewhere without power to charge your phone it’s very handy to have. [Read more…]

LG Chocolate BL40 – Mini Review

LG New Chocolate BL40_Image3I attended the press event for the LG BL40 Chocolate phone this evening and had a chance to have a quick play with the phone to see what it’s all about. The key feature of the BL40 is the 21:9 aspect ratio screen that measures 4″. This makes the phone longer than your average phone, yet after seeing the phone and holding it, it isn’t as long as expected and the dimensions work well. The phone is quite thin measuring just 10.9mm while the width of the phone is 51mm and length 128mm. The screen is covered in tempered glass to give it a nice sleek look.

The phone is capable of speeds up to 7.2Mbps and functions on GSM and HSDPA networks. The BL40 has a 1000mAh battery that allows about 5 hours of calls to be made on a 3G network with up to 360 hours of standby time. [Read more…]
