Tethering is a way provided which allows you to connect your laptop to a mobile phone (either by USB or bluetooth) and use the phones 3G capabilities to surf the net. Network providers generally frown upon this. Yesterday saw a relatively easy hack which allowed users to tweak their iPhone 3G S settings to allow for free tethering. What we now hear is that AT&T want to make tethering official… with a $55/month charge.

This move follows the UK’s iPhone provider who will charge between £14 and £30/month depending on what package you get. [Read more…]

The Mobidaptor is quite a handy device which allows you to hook up a USB flash memory drive up to any device that contains an SD or microSD slot. If you have a need to get some files from phone to PC or vice-versa and don’t want to email them (and don’t have your USB cable) then this is perfect for you. You simply just plug in the flash drive to the Mobidapter which in turn, connects to your phone and copy away.

Google have just released the latest version of Google Maps for the google phone (G1 and Magic). Google Maps is normally built in to Android and only receives updates when the phone network decide to push it to their users. TomTom has always been a brilliant sat nav system which gives detailed 3D or 2D turn by turn navigation. It was recently announced that it will be coming to the iPhone as a new application to launch this summer for the iPhone 3G S. As well as the iPhone getting TomTom, a new mount with charging capabilities will also be made available.

The TomTom mount is capable of being attached to your windshielf and uses a twist and lock mount that is foldable ready for carrying around. The twist function allows TomTom to be used in either portrait or landscape mode. [Read more…]

A leaked WebOS root image was found last night on the web and thanks to this a few homebrewers have been hard at working breaking in to WebOS. The code which can be executed (thanks to the Sprint Nascar application) simply says “Hello World” on the screen which is a common message when homebrewing.

As well as fiddling with running new applications on the Pre the homebrewers also are trying to mess around with the image of the firmware by doing things such as disabling the shutter sound on the camera when the phone is in silent mode. [Read more…]

Apple have announced the latest release of the much rumoured new iPhone. It is named the iPhone 3G S where S = Speed. Although not much at all has changed with the look of the phone there are certainly some nice improvements to the innards in terms of new software features with the largest enhancement being the speed.
