Nokia Eco Sensor Phone

nokia-eco-sensor-phone
Nokia have come up with some interesting concept ideas over the last few years. With “green” being the subject being discussed by many, a number of electronics creators are pushing this theme in to their creations. The Nokia Eco Sensor Phone is one such phone which Nokia want to have that green theme. The concept is that the phone comes with a separate wearable sensor unit which monitors the environment, your health and reports the weather. These features are optional and you can use the ones which suit you.

How is the Nokia Eco Sensor Phone Green?

This is the question I was asking at first. With this phone having environmental sensors built in to the wrist strap it can transmit information back to the phone via NFC (near field communication) and RFID (Radio Frequency Identification). Information about the environment is displayed on the screen which makes you more aware of the pollution around you. If you constantly see high levels of carbon monoxide, ozone problems and such, then you are more likely to take action to reduce these outputs in your own life. This part of the Eco friendly phone seems more psychological. Luckily the green theme doesn’t stop there. This phone will be built on what is called the three Rs. That means reduce, reuse and recycle.

Datopal SIM Card Multi Reader

OTH-READER-12IN1
The Datopal SIM card multi reader has the ability to read a vast amount of cards. As the name suggests, it can read SIM cards from mobile phones (both GSM and CDMA). Other cards this reader can use are SD\Mini SD\MMC\RS-MMC\T-Flash\Micro SD\MMC Micro\MS and SIM Cards. The device is USB 2.0 and backwards compatible with USB 1.1. The reader is also plug and play allowing you to connect it up to any PC and quickly transfer data from the source card. Datopal have also put in backup capabilities allowing you to quickly backup and restore data from your SIM card.

Overall I would say this is a very handy device to have as backups are key. Basically it sucks to loose your phone or any data. By having this reader you can keep a copy of everything.

Bluetooth Bone Conducting Headset

Sound_Leaf_Plus
Sound Leaf is a wireless (BlueTooth) bone conducting headset which shakes the voice message out through your bones. It costs $115 and is bone conducting so that it does not require it to be attached to your ear. It runs on two AAA batteries which power the device for about 15 hours. It weighs just 45g which isn’t too heavy at all.

You may be asking why you need a bone conducting BlueTooth headset. Well, luckily there are a number of good reasons for this 🙂 Just a quick run-down first on how bone conduction works. When the device is pressed against your temple and cheek it vibrates the cranium by an electromechanical transducer (converts electrical signals in to vibrations). This vibrates against the cranium in which the internal ear picks up the noise. This allows you to still hear the voice in loud environments such as a building site. With the bone conductor not needing your actual ear to play the noise to it allows hearing protection to be worn.

More details of the Sound Leaf Wireless can be found here and here.

Small Nokia 5200

small_nokia_5200
The Nokia 5200 series mobile phone isn’t that new. But, with this thing being so tiny I thought I would post to show you all. It is about the size of the end of your thumb, but unfortunately is not a working mobile phone. I had flashbacks of Zoolander while writing this.

Memory Paging added to N95

N95
MyDreamTech are reporting that the N95 has a new firmware update available from Nokia. Several new features are bundled in which include a search box on the home screen. The main feature of the firmware upgrade seems to be a paging feature which handles free RAM better which I assume, speeds up the N95 when switching between apps and such.

Please note that this firmware upgrade is for version 1 of the N95 (not pictured above). To upgrade you just need to visit Nokia and follow the onscreen instructions.

Nokia CA 100 USB Charger

nokia-ca-100-usb-charger
This handy gadget allows you to charge your Nokia phone via USB. Although there are plenty of power sources around, the ability to connect and power your phone via USB has advantages. To get it to work you just need to have the 2mm power plug on the phone and this cable as well as a spare USB port which could be on a laptop, computer or a cigar lighter in your car.

Could a Kinetic Cell Phone Battery arrive soon?

Kinetic Phone Battery
A company named M2E power specialises in kinetic energy for army type products. By using movement, a battery can be charged and provide longer amounts of power. For day to day users this would mean your cell phone battery could last 5 – 7 times longer on a single charge. Where there is movement there is a slight increase in charge. Repeat this movement over and over and your battery can power your device for longer. For the army, this converts in to carrying less equipment around as they often carry many batteries around to keep communications equipment active.

The material that is needed to create the batteries is nothing new and unique. It is readily available and costs a little more then a regular battery. However, the battery is also lighter then the average battery.

If these types of batteries hit main stream then I believe they will do well. The power sucking 3G phones with all video and always on 3G connections would be a perfect fit for kinetic energy to get them charged up to a decent level. In the future we could be charging our phones weekly rather then daily.

Hulger P*Phone with USB Base

P-Phone
The P*Phone from Hulger is a retro looking phone which connects to your PC via USB cable. It works with all VoIP providers such as Skype, Google Talk, iChat, Yahoo and others. Installation is easy as the P*Phone is plug-n-play. What makes this phone extra cool is the ability to plug in to a regular mobile phone which makes it usable on the headset profile. Imagine walking around London and whipping this out when your next call comes through.

The only downside is that it has no spinning dial to dial out like a retro phone. That would be cool to interface that feature in.

The P*Phone costs ‚¬105 in Europe and is available Here.

Dragon Bluetooth Headset – Huge Range

dragon-bluetooth-headset
Bluetooth headsets have been around a while now. The latest from Dragon has a fairly large 328 feet range (100 meters) which is not bad at all. The headset also works with your PC with software such as Skype which is an added bonus allowing you to take calls in the garden with out setting up your PC in the garden. The dragon has a dual microphone set up which helps with noise suppression which makes for clear communication. Another cool feature of the dragon is the multi device pairing allowing you to connect up to a few devices like your PC and cell phone and switch them automatically.

It is claimed to be the longest range Bluetooth headset although you need to have a class 1 cell phone to achieve this range.

25 Years of Nokia Phones

Nokia Phones
Above is an interesting picture which shows 25 years history of Nokia creating mobile phones. It starts off with the huge case type phone back in the analogue days and then moves through the years. It is interesting to see how phones have progressed and had more features packed in while continuing to shrink down in size. How many of these phones have you had? I have had a fair few Nokia’s.

The Iqua 603 SUN Bluetooth headset is the first solar powered Bluetooth headset in the world. It weighs 14 grams and a full charge gets you 200 hours of standby with 9 hours of talk time when it is dark. That’s not bad at all. The Iqua 603 SUN is currently on offer from Orange in the UK for £49.99 and is well worth checking out if you want a new Bluetooth headset. The headset is compatible with a number of phones found over at the Orange site (linked above). Just make sure you have a Bluetooth phone with the headset profile.

There is no G-Phone

There is no g-phone from what Google now tell us. Rather then a G Phone you will be seeing Android which is a software stack for mobile phones including an operating system. By using the Android SDK, developers will be able to create their own software. Android sets all applications equal, meaning that you can get rid of the dialler, change the home screen etc… and make the phone very customised.

The video demonstration above shows various apps such as maps, streets, Quake, a 3D earth. The whole system looks great and very promising. To generate interest in Android, Google are giving away $10M to developers in a challenge to create great apps.
