Nokia N95 Nokmote

N95 Accelerometer
The Nokia N95 has a built in accelerometer. To make use of this, a company in France has created some software called Nokmote which allows you to control the N95 by tilting it left, right, up or down. To skip through menu’s you just flick it to the left or right and then push the phone quickly away from you to select the item. The software is not just for menu’s though. It also allows you to play games, browse through photo albums and control the media player. With the video being in French I have no clue what was actually said, but do check out the game when attached to the screen as the N95 can be used like a Wii Controller which is cool.

What I would like to see (if it’s not already there) is certain shakes and twists quick launching applications. Such as a tilt right to create a new SMS and a twist right to open up your address book etc…

The software will be available in December at Bysamir.

Nokia N82 Comparison

nokia-n82-compares-with-n95
The N82 from Nokia has some fairly impressive specs such as a 5 mega pixel camera with Xenon flash. Connectivity is plentiful too with HSDPA, Wi-fi, Bluetooth A2DP and GPS. The phone compares to the N95 in specs but is not a dual slider (or single slider) and has a keypad on the front face. We are expecting to see an official announcement about the phone in December.

Nokia N96 a Possibility?

n96_concept
Rumours have been floating around about a new phone from Nokia numbered the N96. This beauty packs in 10GB of internal memory (I assume similar to how the 8GB N95 is), has a 3.2 inch colour screen, wifi, Bluetooth 2.0 and a full QWERTY keyboard. The camera steps up a notch to 6 mega pixels and GPS navigation is included. Motion sensors are also to be found inside.

However, this is just rumour as Nokia have not confirmed this yet. The specs listed seem fairly standard so it could be a strong possibility that an N series (N96) is on it’s way to us sometime next year.

Power Brick Charger

Power Brick Charger
The Power Brick is a new battery device which is high capacity. It has a 2400Mah capacity allowing it to charge a regular mobile phone or iPod about three times before it needs recharging it’s self. It weighs less then 100g and can be charged by USB. Outputs on this device are a plenty too. It comes with “tips” for Nokia (x2), Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Motorola/Blackberry/mini USB, iPod, PSP and digital cameras. Also in the pack is a retractable USB cable which connects the tips to the battery. Full charge can be held for 3 months and the on/off switch is located on the side. So you do not loose all the bits and bobs included, the package comes with a small white case too.

For those who are out and about a lot, this small package could be a nice source of power should you need to make a call and your phone is dead.

It costs just £14.99 also which is not bad considering it contains all the above tips for a ton of devices.

A Pacman Shaped Phone

Pacman Phone
QuickSilver have created a new phone which looks like PacMan. From the image on the phone it makes you wonder if this phone is intended to be whipped out of your wet suit while surfing away to catch that picture of a wave as it crashes over you. Looking very closely at the specs it seems to be packed of a few nice features such as a QVGA screen, GPRS and Edge, microSD and a USB port for connectivity. The idea is just concept at the moment, so I have no release date details or prices. Another picture can be found after the jump.

No-Cut Dual SIM Socket

no cut dual sim card socket
This small device allows you to run two SIM cards in one mobile phone at the same time. With this new version you do not need to hack up your SIM cards to make them fit. It appears that one SIM card goes over the battery and the other one in the regular place. It will not work with USIM 3G cards, but will work with a good number of other handsets. This version also does not require you to switch off the mobile phone to change numbers. You have an option on screen to switch between SIM1 and SIM2. For full details check out GR8 Ideas. A compatibility list is given on that site. The dual sim socket will cost just £9.95 and is perfect for those living the Dual SIM life.

Windows Mobile 6.1 Around the Corner

window-mobile-6-1
Rumours have been floating around about Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1. The pencilled in date is for May 2008. The main feature seems to be the layout and how the menu’s all work. The menu’s are believed to work similar to the Treo 500v which uses a carousel type menu where you can move left and right between menus and then up and down those menus to choose the action. According to MS this allows a thinking along the lines of “what do I want to do today?”. As well as a new layout (if rumours are true) then you will also see better WiFi, Exchange integration and Bluetooth.

I literally in the past couple of weeks picked up my first WM6 device and I do hope that this will come as a free upgrade. If not, I am still happy with my current version and no complaints there 😉

Water Powered Phones around the Corner

Water Powered Phones
An interesting device has been created by Samsung which is a micro-fuel cell. What makes this fuel cell different is that it runs on H2O. It works by water!! By mixing metal with water and oxygen it should be able to get three watts of power which is around 10 hours of use. The main problem right now with this is that the hydrogen cartridge needs to be replaced regularly. No doubt, future versions will be easily topped up with just water with out the replacement every few days. This is a nice step forwards as I suspect a lot of places with many mobile phone users will probably (luckily) have access to water to power it.

eInk Keypad Phone

eink-keypad-phone
This phone is a COOL idea which uses eInk to create a keypad. The benefit of this is that eInk doesn’t require battery power except when changing what is on the key. This will allow the keypad to be changed and to be a screen but with out draining the resources of the battery. Things to hope for are tactile feed back from the keys as tapping on a touch screen can sometimes be frustrating and even more so, for sending text messages.
