iRiver S10 Review

iRiver S10
iRiver have created some nice MP3 players in the past. The next creation is the iRiver S10 which is a very small device. The screen is just 1.15 inches running at 96×128 pixels. The screen is OLED which is nice, bright and vibrant. With it being so small, iRiver have come up with a new way to control the device. Rather then put buttons all around the outside edge, the device works by tapping the top corners of the screen which reveals a menu. You can then work through this menu which has been designed very well. According to the reviewer at CoolTechZone it works flawlessly.

Checking over at hothandset they mentioned the almost confirmed Sony Ericsson W999i. Sony have not officially announced it apparently though. Hand Crank Emergency Radio

Hand Crank Emergency Radio
If you are the type of person or family who want to be prepared for emergencys then this radio from Grundig would suit well for situations where no power is available. To power the radio you just use the hand crank. 90 seconds of winding the handle will give you 1 hour of radio. This is ideal for situations where you are stuck in an emergency or just out in the middle of no where with no power. As well as being a radio it has a light, cell phone charger, weather alert, can tune in to various frequencies on the AM and FM bands and also it can act as an emergency siren to catch peoples attention.

Pay As You Go iPhone

iPhone
The iPhone will be launching soon as you are all probably be aware. It will be available on a 2 year contract and still cost a huge 500 – 600 dollars depending on which model you go for. There are now rumours circulating saying that a Pay as You Go version will be made available. I dread to think what that might cost, but it will mean that the phone is not under contract with a provider which allows for more freedom. Now if someone could unlock one of these things that would be impressive.

PSP Camera
Finally we are seeing some progress of the Sony PSP camera which was mentioned a year or so back. It is finally coming to the UK and will cost 34.99 GBP which isnt too bad. The camera attaches to the top of the Sony PSP and can swivel around 180 degrees so that it can face you or face away. It also features a built in microphone and software to edit the captured images on the PC.

The software provided also has a system in which you can directly upload videos or pictures to the internet over the built in wireless connection.

The camera is available now with more details here

New Mobile Key Layout

Phone Keypad
LG have created the AX490 phone which has a unique key layout. Apparantly the predictive text on the 1 – 0 keypad layout does not allow you to text quick enough. What LG have done is create a keyboard which has the regular 10 numeric keys on, but in between each key in the corners is a charachter. If you count them you will see A – Z (all 26 letters). Seeing the speed that my sister can text on the standard 10 numeric keys I would be suprised if this could increase the speed, but it will be interesting to see how it goes, or if it makes the keypad too cluttered.

iPhone Approved by the FCC

iPhone
The iPhone has been approved by the FCC meaning it should hit the shelves late next month. The documents which were signed have confirmed a few things too which is cool. The phone will have Bluetooth, Wifi and work on 1900MHz and 850Mhz GSM bands as well as 2 more bands making it in to a quad band phone. Unfortunately it is not 3G though which is a shame. The phone will only ship in the US at first although it would work elsewhere but be an expensive option.

Pay by Wristwatch

Mastercard Paypass Wristwatch
Mastercard has introduced a new way of paying for items. This time the service uses a device in your watch which stores your card details. One swipe of your watch would allow you to make payments of no more then 15 Euros without having to sign or get out your card. No details are provided as to using a pin number to still authorise the payment which would make it a lot more secure. Hopefully that bright orange watch is not the onlt design and shape it comes in or that could hinder progress of this idea. Having your own watch customised with these features could be a better way forwards though.
