Free Wi-fi Access for PSP Owners

Sony PSP
If you are an owner of a Sony PSP and frequent T-Mobile hotspots then you could be entitled to 6 months of free wifi access. Hurry though… there are only 362 days left to qualify for 6 free months. I have heard rumours that you also need to have the latest firmware, but as I am in the UK and this offer is for the US its a tad far for me to travel and test.

To get this working you need to follow these instructions…

Create a T-Mobile HotSpot Network Profile

1. Bring your PSPĀ® system to a location that provides a T-Mobile HotSpot. (Refer to the T-Mobile HotSpot U.S. Location Map.)
2. Select (Network Settings) under (Settings).
3. Select [Infrastructure Mode].
4. Select [New Connection].
5. Select [Use Wireless Hotspot].
6. Select the T-Mobile HotSpot icon.
7. If you have an existing T-Mobile HotSpot account, select [Enter User Credentials]. Enter your user ID and password, and then press the right button. or If you do not have an account, select [Use Promotional Access] to sign up for a complimentary six-month T-Mobile HotSpot account . (To qualify for this promotional access, you must authenticate your PSPĀ® system to the T-Mobile HotSpot network prior to March 28, 2008.)
8. Check the contents of the settings list.
9. Save the settings.
10. Perform a connection test. If you select [Test Connection], the system will connect to the selected access point.
11. Confirm the connection test results.
If the connection is successful, information about the network is displayed.

AAA Powered Cell Phone

Philips AAA Powered Phone
Loosing power to your mobile in this day in age is like loosing an arm. I have seen a number of people have to suddenly go home to charge their phone because they dont want to miss that all important text message from a friend.

Philips has launched a new celphone which supports the use of a backup AAA battery which allows up to 3 hours more of talk time on the handset. The phone is named the Xenium NRG and its primary source of power is a regular phone type battery and the AAA can be put in as a secondary battery.

The idea is actually great and more useful then I first imagined. AAA batteries have an advantage over regular mobile phone batteries in that they are a lot cheaper and also come fully charged off the shelf. Also availability is far greater with them being in almost every shop you walk in to.

Nokia – Visual Search Engine

Nokia Visual Search Engine
A new application to the US Patent reveals that Nokia are planning to create a visual search engine which will be used to find images by using their shape, colour and texture. The search engine will be able to generate keywords about each image uploaded allowing you to sort through images. If you want to find a picture of something then you can also take a photo with your phone, upload the image and the app will be able to pick out matching details.

The whole process behind this is quite complicated but very interesting to read. More details can be found at the link below.

OCZ Versatile Trifecta Flash Card

Trifecta Flash Card
The Trifecta Flash Card from OCZ technologies is a unique 3 way compatible storage device. It works as a MicroSD, SD and USB key in one which allows easy transfering of files between several devices such as a laptop with USB and a phone with microSD. As transfering files is becoming more needed these days, it seems a logical step to include as many formats in 1 card so that no cables need to be carried around. Overall, I think this is an impressive device.

Two memory capacities are available allowing 1Gb or 2Gb of data to be stored wuth a read rate of 66X. The card comes standard with a 5 year warranty.
