Samsung Epic 4G gets Android 2.2 Froyo Update
Samsung has launched the Android 2.2 Froyo update for the Epic 4G.
The update isn’t available OTA via this method, but is official in that you can download it direct from Samsung. To get it, you need to download an executable file on your PC, load it up while your Epic 4G is connected. Another option is to use the update.zip file that can be put on your Epic 4G microSD card and once there, you can install the usual way by booting the device up. The latter method is only designed for the devices that run the DI18 build though, so for others not on that build you need to stick to the PC method. [Read more…]

Instapaper is a popular app for iOS based devices. Due to the popularity of it, it always manages to hold a decent rank in the News category. That rank is constantly between number 2 and 5.
With the steady rank and popularity, it manages to give the owner, Marco, a good look in to various spikes that iOS devices get in sales. For example, when the iPad launches in a new country, a spike happens on Instapaper downloads. Microsoft [MSFT] has announced that it is rolling out a new Windows Phone 7 update, actually the first ever update for the platform.
Before you get excited about copy and paste though, this first update (first of many as the Windows Phone Blog mentions), is just a preparatory update that doesn’t change anything for the user in terms of day to day usage. Huawei Could Bring Internet to London Underground
When the 2012 Olympics kick off in London, you might be able to get online whilst using the London Underground. This is thanks to Huawei who is currently in talks to provide the necessary equipment to bring all parts of the underground.
The hardware will be provided by Huawei while the installation and maintenance would be carried out by Thales. Price wise, estimates indicate it will cost £100 million for the installation which will go along the roof of the tunnels. [Read more…]

Apple Could Offer a Cheaper iPhone
Large publications have recently received information that hints at a smaller iPhone launching this year, along with a regular sized device. We now hear from the NYT that the smaller phone wont be coming any time soon, but instead, the next generation iPhone will actually be cheaper.
Instead of making a cheaper iPhone that is smaller, it appears that Apple is looking at lowering the cost of the parts, hopefully not the quality, to get the price tag down. [Read more…]

O2 in the UK will be selling an exclusive White version of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play when it launches in the next couple of months.

Apple iPhone 5 to Get Improved Battery Life
The next generation iPhone, iPad and iPod touch could see a boost in battery life, thanks to some work being done by Apple. The company has filed a patent to which they describe a battery with a higher cell density. Nokia to Give Developers free WP7 Device
Nokia has sent out an email to members of the Launchpad, letting them know that they will be getting a free E7 and a Windows Phone 7 device when available.
Launchpad is Nokia’s mobile app development program that normally has a price tag of 300 per year. It’s actually free for the first year. Nokia need to approve companies and developers in to the program and once there, when the devices are available, they’ll be shipped out. [Read more…]

Over in the UK, Expansys now has the LG Optimus 3D available for preorder. Expansys is selling the SIM free version which carries a price tag of £514.99.

Verizon iPhone 4 Sales Data Leaked
Some sales details have leaked about the number of Verizon iPhone and AT&T iPhones sold over a five day period. The numbers show that the Verizon version of the iPhone was outselling the AT&T model on all days around the time of launch. However, these numbers are said to still be below what Apple and Verizon had predicted.
The numbers were found by BGR and are as follows:
– Thursday: Verizon = 909, AT&T = 539
– Friday: Verizon = 916, AT&T = 680
– Saturday: Verizon = 660, AT&T = 471
– Sunday: Verizon = 796, AT&T = 701
