Android Beats Symbian in Sales for Q4 2010

Quarter 4 of 2010 saw Android beat Symbian as the fastest selling smartphone platform in that quarter. In total, 32.9 million Android handsets were shifted the last quarter of last year. Symbian saw 31 million handsets being shifted.

Although that’s very interesting as it is, what makes it even more amazing is that Q3 saw Android with 20.3 million which shows over a 10 million increase in to quarter 4. Compare that to Symbian, they went from 29.9m which shows just over 1 million in growth. [Read more…]

Google Nexus S Reboot Issue To Be Soon Fixed by OTA Update

Those of you who own a Google Nexus S that has random reboot problems, Google has provided an update saying that a fix will be available in the next two weeks.

Google will push out an OTA (over the air) update to Nexus S devices as explained by Ry Guy on a Google Mobile Help Thread.

Kindle for Windows Phone 7 Download Now Available

Amazon has launched Kindle for Windows Phone 7. The download is now available from the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace.

Just like other versions such as the iPhone, Android and iPad variants, the Windows Phone 7 version allows you to download your already purchased eBooks. The app uses the same Whispersync technology so that you can read on the Windows Phone 7 device and then switch to another device and carry on reading from where you left off. [Read more…]

Dual Core Samsung Galaxy S 2 Confirmed

Samsung has confirmed that two new Galaxy S class devices will be launching at MWC 2011 next month.

The first is the Samsung Galaxy S 2 smartphone and the other is the next generation Samsung Galaxy Tab. Although the devices will be launching at MWC, we wont actually get to use them till later on this year, perhaps at a guess, closer to the year mark of when each originally launched. [Read more…]

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play PlayStation Phone Spotted Again

The PlayStation Phone has again been spotted. This time, Engadget managed to get a full hands-on and test to see if it’s any good. Just like all other details and videos we have seen about this device, this one is also pre-production and therefore, can be a little buggy in places.

More Facebook Phone Rumors Revealed

Although the rumors of a Facebook Phone have been denied in the past, we now hear more rumors of the device.

BGR received a tip recently that hinted at the device still being designed. Some of the features to be made available could include location aware coupons, always on GPS, cloud-based storage and a news-ticker style inbox where emails, updates and everything else is put in to a single feed on the home screen. Verizon iPhone Hotspot will Cost $20/Month

When the Verizon iPhone 4 was announced a couple of weeks back, it was quickly noted that this version of the smartphone would have a mobile hotspot feature available to users.

Google Not Happy With Paid App Growth in the Android Market

Eric Chu from Google told developers this week that Google was not happy with the progress of paid-apps in the Android Market.

White iPhone 4 Shows up on Three and Orange in UK

When Apple announced the iPhone almost 8 months ago, they said that black and white versions would be launching. Of course, we waited and waited even longer and still wait now for the white iPhone 4 to launch.

Good news for some is that it looks like the white iPhone 4 might be launching soon as it has started to appear on a number of websites in the UK such as Three and Orange as well as a provider in Germany and has appeared in stock listings for AT&T in the US. [Read more…]

iPhone 5 and iPad 2 Could Get NFC

Early last year we saw a patent that indicated that NFC (near field communication) was heading to the iPhone 4. This of course didn’t happen which then led to speculation that the iPhone 5 might be the device which sees NFC implanted inside it.

Bloomberg is reporting today that Apple appears likely to add NFC to the iPhone 5 and the iPad 2 making them into mobile payment systems.

The main goal for Apple would be to get a piece of the $6.2 trillion Americans spend each year on goods and services, Crone said. Today, the company pays credit-card processing fees on every purchase from iTunes. By encouraging consumers to use cheaper methods — such as tapping their bank accounts directly, which is how many purchases are made via PayPal — Apple could cut its own costs and those of retailers selling Apple products.

HTC HD2 Dual Boot to Windows 7 and Android

The HTC HD2 is now capable of dual booting in to either Windows Phone 7 or Android thanks to the guys at XDA Developers.

To do this, you need to have a couple of SD cards ie, an 8GB and 16GB card. You need two cards so that you can create the needed partitions and once done, you copy the smaller card partition to the larger card. [Read more…]
