Nokia N8 & C7 Green Eco-Friendly Versions Announced

Nokia has announced that a couple of new versions of smartphones are being launched that aim to be more Green and eco-friendly. The new versions are the Nokia N8 and the Nokia C7.

Each is being made in partnership with O2 in the UK and Telefonica in Spain and uses green enhancements such as bio-plastic construction as well as bio-plant construction. Each screen will be switched to AMOLED to be more efficient in terms of power savings. [Read more…]

webOS Security Flaws Found

Security flaws have been found in webOS by a company called SecTheory. Researches at the company managed to find a handful of these flaws.

The reason why these flaws exist is because of how webOS works with Javascript. The OS basically puts it closer to the core which is different than most other operating systems who keep it far away. [Read more…]

Windows Phone 7 Hack Lets you Bypass the Marketplace

The ChevronWP7 tool is a handy bit of software that allows you to sideload apps on to your Windows Phone 7 smartphone which essentially, bypasses the Windows Market Place. Windows Phone is generally locked for those who are not developers.

The software is compatible with Windows based computers that run Windows XP service pack 2 and newer. The software is described as being able to unlock the device (not in a carrier unlock way) which basically makes the device in to a developers phone without going through the approval process. Sony Ericsson PlayStation Phone Could Launch December 9

A mysterious press event is being held in France on December 9. The captured ad for the event shows several familiar logos which includes a phone symbol, X, Circle, Triangle and Square of course with the latter four of the five being Playstation controls. Mix that with the phone just before it… is the Playstation Phone about to be announced?

The image (in French) says that this event is to be the most anticipated in the last 10 years. The event will be hosted by Pierre Perron who is the DG of Sony Ericsson in France. [Read more…]

HTC HD7 Buy One Get One Free

T-Mobile and Microsoft have created a deal to offer the HTC HD7 on a buy one get one free basis.

Pleco 2.2 for iPhone and iPad Finally Launches

Pleco for iPhone and iPad has finally been approved in the iTunes store. The new 2.2 version brings OCR to the app allowing you to capture a word via the camera and have it scanned and converted in to English. The meaning of each character loads up as it is recognised.

Added an amazing new “live” Optical Character Recognizer (OCR) system as a paid add-on; using this, you can point your device’s camera at a word to instantly look up its meaning (no need to take a photo and wait for a result). This is currently only supported on devices with autofocus cameras (i.e., the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4). To try a free demo version of OCR, open Pleco, tap on the menu button at the bottom right corner of the screen, tap “Add-ons,” tap on “Optical Character Recognizer” and tap on the button to download and run the demo.

iPhone 3G and 3GS Unlock for iOS 4.1 Could Launch This Weekend

iOS 4.2.1 was released a few days ago which signaled a time to prepare for the older baseband on the iPhone 3G and 3GS to be unlocked. Estimations were showing that Ultrasn0w was being prepared for launch either Wednesday or Thursday this week.

Nokia E7 Release Date Now 2011

The Nokia E7 had a release date of sometime in the 4th quarter of 2010. However, the release date looks like it has been changed to January 2011 according to what we see on the UK retailer site called Expansys.

The exact shipping date they show is January 11 which is when those who order can actually get their hands on the new smartphone. [Read more…]

Google Android 2.3 Confirmed as Gingerbread

XDA-Developers has managed to confirm that the next version of Android will be Android 2.3 and not 3.0. The 2.3 update is also known as Gingerbread.

The information comes from some pictures captured of the Google Nexus S. Android 2.3 was seen to be running on the device with the about screen showing Android version 2.3 along with the Kernal information, Model Number and others information normally found on that screen. [Read more…]

Amazon Price Check Shopping App Launches

Amazon has launched a new app called the Price Check for iPhone. The new app adds a number of new functions to the traditional mobile shopping cart system.

The new features include the ability to “say it” and search for products by voice. Snap It lets you take a picture of a product and then search the Amazon store for it and Scan It lets you scan the barcode of a product to be found in the Amazon store. [Read more…]

HTC Could Abandon Windows Phone 7 and Android If Needed

In an interesting interview with Pocket-Lint, HTC has indicated that if Windows Phone 7 and Android do not offer the freedom that HTC wants, they could look at other options. Those options could include HTC creating its own OS.
