Angry Birds for iPhone Hits 10 Million Paid Downloads

Angry Birds has turned out to be a great product for its creators. For Android devices over 2 million copies were downloaded. We now hear that the iPhone version has seen 10 million downloads. What makes this more impressive is that the 10 million downloads doesn’t include the free versions.

HP to Sell Palm Pre 2 Direct to Customers

HP has confirmed that the Palm Pre 2 will be sold direct from HP as well as through carriers. Doing it this way allows those who just want the handset to be able to buy it without having to get it from a carrier and potentially have it locked or having you sign up for an agreement.

The Redsn0w jailbreak for iOS 4.1 has been released. This particular iOS 4.1 jailbreak is compatible with iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, Apple TV (second gen), iPad and iPod touch.

It looks like geohot’s recent limera1n exploit for iPhone3GS/iPhone4/iPad/ipt3g/ipt4g/atv2g will be very beneficial to jailbreakers and unlockers for the next few months (at least). geohot’s limera1n program and the alternative greenpois1on program both use his same exploit (although greenpois0n refuses to tell you that, FWIW), and hopefully SHAtter can be saved for some later device.

iOS 4.2 Release Date Getting Closer – 4.2 Goes Gold

Apple [AAPL] has released the latest version of iOS 4.2 to developers. The latest version has received GM status and was made available to developers last night. What this means is that the final public release is just around the corner, perhaps this week when Apple holds its secret meeting with developers.

Sprint 4G Network Switched on in NYC

Sprint [S] announced today that it has launched its 4G network for customers based in New York City, Hartford, New Haven, New Brunswick, Trenton and Tampa.

Sony Ericsson X10 Android 2.1 Update Rolling Out

Sony Ericsson is beginning to roll out the Android 2.1 update for various Xperia smartphones. The list includes the Xperia X10, X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro lineup.

The roll-out has started already, but rather than pushing it out to all handsets, Sony Ericsson is rolling it out to various “kits” as they refer to them as. A Kit is described as being a different variation of the phone which includes colours, accessories bundled etc…

Apple Patent Suggests Scratch Resistant Stainless Steel

Apple [AAPL] has filed another patent that reveals they have worked, or are working on, a new scratch resistant stainless steel. The patent was filed this April just gone and describes a method to protect stainless steel from regular wear and tear.

To make the metal scratch resistant, the process requires a high temperature nitrogen-based salt bath where it shots for an hour and a half. What this does is ads a coating to the metal that protects it from being scratched. The extra layer added measures about 15 – 30 microns in thickness. Google Nexus Two Denied by Samsung

Last week, a number of details about the Google Nexus Two were leaked. The information said that rather than HTC making the Nexus Two, the responsibility this time would be Samsungs. A Nexus Two device was spotted and described as looking similar to the Galaxy S class smartphone.
