Spotify for webOS Devices Announced

Spotify has announced that the service is now available for those using webOS based smartphones, in particular the Palm Pre and Palm Pixi. The app its self is free although to use it you’ll need to subscribe to the premium subscription service that costs £9.99 per month and gives you access to plenty of music.

Just like the other version, the Palm webOS version of the software allows you to search, browse and play music from a selection of millions of tracks. Playlists are also syncronised to the device and can be downloaded which allows you to use them whilst off line. [Read more…]

Android Gingerbread Could Be Version 2.3

Google [GOOG] is getting ready to launch the next version of Google Android. What we do know is that the new Android version will be called Gingerbread. What we don’t know is what the Android version number will be. We have often referred to it as Android 3.0, as have many others. Some people refer to it as Android 2.5.

Motorola CLIQ Android 2.1 Update Arrives

The Android 2.1 update for the Motorola CLIQ is now available. The software was quickly pushed out after just a day of testing by a select few CLIQ owners.

New Nook Color Render Spotted

Barnes & Noble will be announcing something tomorrow (Tuesday 26th October). Rumors and a few tips are showing that the company could be announced a new Nook Color. Some leaked/rumored information says that this particular device will have a price tag of $249 and will be a touch screen device although the technology behind the screen is unknown at the moment… meaning will it be OLED, LCD or something else.

The image below shows what is believed to be the new Nook Color. It showed up briefly on the B&N website in the accessory section and was described as a Nook Color Screen Film Kit. [Read more…]

HTC Knight Could Land on Sprint

The HTC Knight is an Android based smartphone that could be landing soon on the Sprint [S] network in the US.

Not much is known about the Knight at the moment although the details that have been found indicated that it has a sliding screen. This indicates a full QWERTY keyboard can be found on the device. This information comes from some text found in an XML file which says the following…

Square iPhone 4 Card Reader Interference Fixed with Redesign

The Square card reader is a device that attaches to the headphone jack on the iPhone. When connected to the iPhone 4 it actually hurt the reception due to metal on the bottom of the reader contacting with the metal antenna of the iPhone 4. It seems that in some cases, signal could be affected by this.

Square has now launched a new model that gets rid of the metal contact at the top of the 3.5mm jack which in turn, prevents contact being made with the metal surrounding of the antenna. [Read more…]

Samsung Galaxy S Android 2.2 Updating Arriving November

Samsung has announced that the Samsung Galaxy S Android 2.2 update will be made available in November. In the UK it will be available on all phones by the end of the month while the unlocked, SIM free devices will get it early in November. We believe that the US variants such as the Captivate, Fascinate, Epic 4G and Vibrant will fall in to this category (full press release is below for you to make your own interpretation).

The software will not be an OTA update like on most other devices. Instead, a new version of the Kies updater app will be made available that you can download to your computer and initiate the update process through your computer. [Read more…]

5.2 Million iPhones Activated in Summer 2010 on AT&T

AT&T [T] in the US has activated a record number of iPhones this summer just gone. Numbers indicate that 5.2 million were activated in the summer period which is up when compared to the spring period when 3.2 million were sold.

The total numbers reveal that a total of 8 million integrated devices were activated during the summer quarter with the majority of those being the iPhone. The breakdown of which versions of the iPhone were activated is not known although we suspect that it leans heavily to the iPhone 4. [Read more…]

iPhone iOS 4.1 Jailbreak Pwnage Tool Screen Shot Arrives

Yesterday, Musclenerd over on Twitter posted a screen shot of the new Pwnage Tool. The Pwnage Tool is compatible with a whole range of iOS device and includes the iPhone 4, 3G, 3GS as well as the iPod touch 2G, 3G and 4G and on to the iPad and Apple TV.

Each of the devices needs to be running iOS 4.1 or 3.2.2 for the iPad for this tool to work with. [Read more…]

Samsung Epic 4G Modded to Get Game Pad

The Samsung Epic 4G normally has a slide out QWERTY keyboard. A modder decided to pull away a bunch of the keys to create more of a game pad setup to play games.

The reason he decided to keep it simple was that it works surprisingly well. The modder, Phawx, has created a number of mods in the past for smartphones and when it comes down to controlling on-screen characters it seems that simply pulling out the unwanted keys and making a few cosmetic changes is the best way to go.
