Motorola DROID Pro Announced

As can be seen already today, Motorola [MOT] is launching another device called the Motorola DROID Pro. The DROID Pro is described as being a “mobile office in your pocket” and has a number of features that allow you to keep connected to business whilst on the move.

It runs the Android 2.2 operating system, it has a QWERTY keyboard on the front of the device that allows for quick text entry when replying to text messages or emails and it has all the usual connectivity such as Wireless, Bluetooth as well as DNLA for pushing media wirelessly around your home. Motorola Spice Android Smatphone Announced

Motorola [MOT] has announced the Motorola Spice. The Spice is a portrait slider QWERTY device that runs the Android 2.1 operating system. It has a 3 megapixel camera on the back that has a fixed focus and 8x digital zoom.

Memory wise, the camera has 256MB RAM, 512MB ROM and it also has a microSD card slot allowing for a further 32GB of storage to be added.

For connectivity it has Bluetooth 2.0+EDR as well as Wireless at 802.11b/g. [Read more…]

Android Gets 32% Of New Smartphone Owners

For the last six months, data from The Nielsen Company is showing that Android based smartphones are the most popular choice.

Data indicates that around June time BlackBerry OS dropped below both Android and iOS with Android taking the lead. Interestingly, iOS was overtaken by Android back in March/April. [Read more…]

HTC Desire HD Vodafone Pre-Orders Now Available

The HTC Desire HD is now available for pre-order on the Vodafone network in the UK.

FringOut for Android Arrives

Fring just released an update for Android that brings FringOut to the service. FringOut for Android lands at the same time as Skype for Android which indicates some battle between them is starting.

Prices for calls in the US start at 1c/min which matches Skype. Fring claim no hidden fees and that the 1c is the final amount rather than a 15% VAT surcharge.

Also, calls can be made of Wireless, 3G or 4G networks meaning you are not tied down to just wireless in the US like you are with Skype. [Read more…]

Palm Mansion Rumoured – 800×480 with No QWERTY

Some rumors about a new smartphone from Palm circulated a week or so back. We now hear more rumors that a smarthphone will be coming from Palm. It is codenamed Mansion and will have an 800 x 480 screen and no physical QWERTY keyboard.

The information comes from Pre Central who managed to dig up some information about the new device. Instead, it will of course have a virtual keyboard which also lines up a little with some virtual keyboard code found in webOS 2.0 recently. [Read more…]

Skype for Android Now Available

Skype for Android is now available to download. The Skype download requires Android 2.1+ to function and is compatible with all devices (other than the Galaxy S that has a few bugs at the moment).

Android Skype works just like any other version in that you log in with your username and password, if you have one, and see all the contacts you already have. You can IM or call over Wi-Fi or 3G although for those in the US, calling is restricted to WiFi only at the moment. [Read more…]

iPhone ZX Spectrum Emulator

The ZX Spectrum launched back in the early 80s and with it, a number of games launched over the years that it was popular. Games included the likes of Chuckie Egg, Turbo Esprit amongst many other games.

Sharp Android Phone Gets High Res DIsplay

For those over in Japan, you are about to get a new Android smartphone with the highest resolution of any Android device.

The new device will have an iPhone 4 res style screen that is capable of displaying 960 x 640 pixels. The screen uses IPS type displays that widens the viewing angle to 178 degrees.

Windows Phone 7 Press Event in NYC to Get Steve Ballmer Keynote

As well as launching Windows Phone 7 in London on October 11, NYC will also have an event the same day where the new smartphone OS will be launched.

This part isn’t new news as we already heard it earlier today. What we learn now though is that Steve Ballmer and Ralph de la Vega of AT&T will be attending the NYC meeting.

AT&T Navigator 1.7i Brings Speech Recognition to iPhone App

The AT&T Navigator app for iPhone has just been updated to version 1.7i. Version 1.7i brings new features to the iPhone and now allows you to use your voice to set a destination as well as switch between apps whilst the Navigator software is running.

The multitasking features work as expected in that you can double tap the home button to bring up the tray of icons and switch to and from the app without losing your location.

The voice search feature is activated by clicking a microphone on the screen. When you click on the mic you simply tell it where you want to go. As well as searching for addresses you can also search for POI. [Read more…]

iOS 4.1 Unlock for 3GS Baseband 05.14.02 Details Emerge

Last week, details emerged about the 05.14.02 unlock for the iPhone 3GS not being worked on.

It seems now though that a potential unlock can be made for this baseband after some work was done over the weekend by a hacker named Clayton. The exploit found was used to crash the iPhone 3GS and it is expected now that an unlock could emerge from this work. [Read more…]
