T-Mobile G2 Unboxing Video Lands on YouTube

It appears that a T-Mobile G2 has been delivered a little earlier than expected. Someone managed to get their hands on one from somewhere, either through the post or perhaps a store worker.

The lucky person managed to capture some video of the device showing it being unboxed and having a quick test to show us what its about. As we often see with sneaky early videos, the phone is captured by blurry cam which means the quality isn’t good at all although you do get an idea of how it looks and what its about. [Read more…]

Vodafone Causing A Stir With “Bloatware”

The UK Mobile network, Vodafone has yet again caused a bit of a kerfuffle (understatement) due to their latest update for the Samsung Galaxy S.

Many had believed that they would finally be able to get the latest update for Android, being 2.2 (Froyo), but this could not have been further from what was actually recieived. Instead rather, it seems that many forum members and Galaxy users have snarled at Vodafone in shovelling “bloatware” onto their new phones with apps that are either not needed, that cannot be un-installed and which take up valuable space or that many find, now finding performance issues such as increased call-dropping as a result of the new update. iPhone 3GS HDR Photos Could Become Official

We have seen a hack before that allows the iPhone 3GS to get HDR photography. This modification required that you jailbreak the iPhone 3GS and edit a file to activate the feature.

What we hear now is that Apple [AAPL] could have intended on the iPhone 3GS getting HDR photography all along. The information comes from a couple of images of the HDR button found in the firmware for the phone. Two image files were found. One of them had a retina display enhanced version of the HDR image (button found at the top of the screen when capturing an image). A second lower resolution image was also found that looks to be optimised for the regular display.

What this indicates is a couple of things. Either Apple intended the HDR feature to be included in iOS 4.1 for the 3GS, or that they might add it in the future. [Read more…]

Windows Phone 7 Chassis 2 Revealed

Windows Phone 7 hardware is classified in “chassis”. The main Chassis that all current test devices have been are Chassis 1 devices which basically means a large screen covering the face of the device with just three physical buttons below the screen. An optional slide out QWERTY keyboard also falls in to the Chassis 1 category with the LG C900 and LG GW910 being the only Windows Phone 7 devices that currently use that option.

Chassis 2 details have now been revealed. The screen resolution on these devices will be 480 x 320 which leaves room for a physical QWERTY keyboard on the front of the device, ie like a BlackBerry or E series Nokia.

WP7 devices will have one of two screen resolutions – either 800 x 480 for large touchscreen devices with the potential for slide-out Qwerty keyboards, or 480 x 320 for ‘BlackBerry’ style handsets that can incorporate a Qwerty on the front of the device. Microsoft expects the majority of WP7 devices to have the larger screen resolution at launch, with smaller resolution handsets coming later, said Foster.
