HTC Desire HD ROM Ported to Incredible, Desire and EVO 4G

The HTC Desire ROM was ported to the HTC HD2 earlier this week. The team at XDA Developers have now managed to port the same ROM over to the DROID Incredible, the HTC Desire and the EVO 4G.

If you go ahead and install the Desire HD ROM on your smartphone then just take note that the builds are not final and are very early in terms of getting it all working. For example, the camera is not working on any of the devices. Class the ports as a beta and a work in progress. [Read more…]

T-Mobile G2 Pre-Orders Start Today

T-Mobile is beginning to open up pre-orders today for the new T-Mobile G2. The website below shows a pre-order date of September 24 through October 4 followed by a release date of October 6.

This is good news for two reasons. First reason is that it is now available to pre-order, which will certainly keep some people happier. The second reason is that the release date was thought to be October 16 which has now been announced as 10 days earlier. [Read more…]

iTunes Error 37 Jailbreak Fixed with Sn0wbreeze Update

The Sn0wbreeze jailbreak for iOS 4.1 was released recently although the original version 2 caused an error for some users. The error in iTunes was Error 37 that basically stopped the jailbreak process midway.

Error 37 appears in iTunes when users are midway through the jailbreak process when the custom firmware is being uploaded back to the iPhone.

In response to the error, the people behind Sn0wbreeze have now created version 2.0.1 that aims to fix the problem. The iOS 4.1 jailbreak works just like the previous version and simply exists to get rid of the error. [Read more…]

Game Center for iOS 4.1 Ported to iPhone 3G

Game Center is part of the iOS 4.1 update that landed a few weeks back. However, it only works on the newer models of iPhone and iPod touch and leaves out the iPhone 3G from that compatibility list.

If you were disappointed by this news then perhaps take a look over at Redmond Pie who managed to get Game Center working on the iPhone 3G by making a few tweaks to the settings.

To get it working, the team used the Redsn0w jailbreak and edited a file within to switch the Game Center software back on. From looking at the video (embedded below), it seems to run quite well although there is a little lag in some places. The slow response in certain areas of Game Center is probably why Apple [AAPL] dropped support for it as they are quite keen on making things run smooth on iOS devices. [Read more…]

iPhone Case with Flip-Out Keyboard – The TK-421

The TK-421 is a case built for the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS that has a built in QWERTY keyboard. The iPhone sits inside the back of the case and the keyboard can open up by rotating the iPhone off the keyboard… see the animation to see how it works.

Android gets Kindle App Update – Brings Voice Search

Amazon has updated its Kindle app today for Android based smartphones. The new update is a relatively minor update that brings just a couple of new features to the reading software.

Features include voice search that allows you to use your voice to search for text inside a book. You can of course still use text entry to search through books.

The other new feature includes the ability to search the definition of words in Wikipedia. Book information can also be searched for in Shelfari. [Read more…]

Fake GreenPois0n Jailbreak Tool for iOS 4.1 Packed with Malware

With the release of GreenPois0n coming soon, a number of people are waiting to jailbreak iOS 4.1 based iPhones, there is also concern now that a fake Greekpois0n download is doing the rounds. The fake version is packed with malware which when opened, can cause a few problems for the user.

Cybercriminals have definitely been riding the buzz around the supposed jailbreaking tool. It’s presumed to be called “Greenpois0n” and it’s expected to be released any day now. Not surprisingly, we’ve seen a number of fake “Greenpois0n” Trojans.

iPhone Wallet Trials to Start on New York Transit

VISA has launched a pilot scheme that allows people travelling in New York to use their iPhone as a payment system.

The system is called VISA payWave and allows you to simply open up an application and wave the phone over various paypoints located around the underground. When a payment is detected you can then proceed through the barrier to make your journey.

As well as using the iPhone for the pilot test, VISA is also looking at payment cards as well for an alternative quick method for making payments. [Read more…]

Facebook Phone Could Arrive Next Year

Rumours of a Facebook Phone have been going around since last weekend. First off, it was expected that a Facebook Phone was going to be built which was then denied by Facebook.

We are now hearing that INQ could be making a Facebook phone. Reports indicate that a couple of Facebook phones could be launched by INQ with an estimated release date of some time next year.

Although Facebook denied the phone, Mark Zuckerberg recently said in an interview with TechCrunch that they are looking at some kind of integration with a mobile platform rather than a regular log on type service that we see now. [Read more…]

Voice Memos App in iOS 4.2 To Get a New Icon

Apple [AAPL] looks to be changing the Voice Memos icon in the latest iOS 4.2 build. The current icon has a red background with a detailed microphone. The new version looks to be a little more basic with a standard blue background with a white mic on top of that.

This move will keep a consistent look across all iOS devices as well as with the iPod nano. [Read more…]

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Android 2.1 Update Delayed

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 owners might be left a little disappointed today after the company has announced that the Android 2.1 update that was scheduled to arrive this month has actually been delayed until the end of next month.

The company has “had to spend some additional time on the software to really makes sure we roll-out with the right quality and user experience,”. This affects all X10 variants such as the Mini and others.

Right now the X10 is stuck using the older (very older) Android 1.6 until Sony Ericsson release the 2.1 update. Even at that point it still puts X10 users behind the pack as Android 2.2 is coming standard on a number of phones released at the moment. [Read more…]

HTC HD7 Full Specs Revealed

Drawings and pictures as well as a bit of rumour has been revealed about the HTC HD7. The only thing we don’t know at the moment is what it will be actually called. The image above shows it as the HD3, but most documents seen recently online show it as the HD7 which seems like its in answer to the Windows Phone 7 OS that it will run.

What we have now is the technical specs that reveal the handset is slightly larger than the HTC HD2. Size wise it measures 122 x 68 x 11.2 mm. For connectivity it works on the T-Mobile USA 3G frequency of 1700 MHz (might be just this model only) with other markets supporting other networks.

The HD7 is expected to be a flashship smartphone in terms of technical specs. [Read more…]
