HTC Desire Android 2.2 Update Finally Lands for T-Mobile

Back in June we wrote a post that said that the HTC Desire may be getting itself the new Android 2.2 update around June time, but we did also say that this date was not set in stone…  The SIM free update came just after, early in August. This was followed by the update for Vodafone users. Now that we’re in September, T-Mobile has finally started to push out the Android 2.2 update.

Quite why other mobile devices such as Sony Ericssons’ Xperia X10 are still left out of the loop is anyone’s guess and as soon as we here anything else we’ll let you know.

PrintJinni Print App for iPhone

Apple [AAPL] will launch AirPrint in November this year. The AirPrint software will be part of iOS 4.2 that will bring muiltitasking and printing to the iPad.

If you don’t want to wait a few more months for wireless printing abilities then go and checkout the PrintJinni application that has been designed to print documents to Epson hardware.

The application costs $7 to purchase and once up and running, allows you to read various types of documents from various email services.

The app supports Gmail, Microsoft Exchange, MobileMe, AOL, and other IMAP-based e-mail accounts. Users can download, display, preview, and print e-mail attachments while maintaining accurate formatting. PrintJinni also promises easy discovery of supported Epson printer and all-in-one devices over a wireless network.

Windows Phone 7 to be GSM-Only This Year

According to CNET, Microsoft [MSFT] is delaying the launch of CDMA based Windows Phone 7 smartphones until next year. The launch this year will be for GSM variants that will be launched around the globe.

“We had to make some trade-offs,” senior product manager Greg Sullivan told CNET today. “Even Microsoft doesn’t have unlimited resources. We had to prioritize doing fewer things, really, really well.”

HTC Sense for Windows Phone 7 – Could be Fake

The video below could be fake although we are not 100% in the know on either decision.

It supposedly shows a demo of what HTC Sense will look like when run on Windows Phone 7. The main problem here is that Microsoft doesn’t allow modifications to how the home screen functions, so right now it is believed that HTC will create an app to replicate functions on the phone.

Although it looks good and quite flashy, we are not too convinced this is what will be showing up on Windows Phone 7 as it seems a little too much in details for what users want in a mobile phone experience. [Read more…]

Twitter and YouTube on Windows Phone 7 Demo

Microsoft [MSFT] ran a demo of Twitter and YouTube for Windows Phone 7 to give people an idea of how they work and how well they are integrated in to the new mobile OS.

As well as showing off Twitter and Youtube, TechFlash reports that other apps of sites such as Netflix, Flixter and Travelocity were also on show.

Windows Phone 7 running YouTube works with publicly available API’s and is capable of streaming the H.264 encoded files. [Read more…]

HTC Desire Z to Cost £430 – Desire HD £470 at Play.com

The HTC Desire Z has only just been officially announced. We now have the first prices starting to roll in. The first is from Play.com in the UK who have the new Android smartphone priced at £430.

As well as pricing up the Desire Z, Play has also priced up the HTC Desire HD and given it a price tag of £470. Remember that prices quoted on Play.com are not subsidised, ie contract free. Expect the prices of these phones to be cheaper if you are willing to sign up for an 18 to 24 month contract. [Read more…]

Skyfire Flash Browser Hits 1 Million Downloads

Skyfire confirmed recently that 1 million users are not using the Skyfire browser on Android OS based devices.

With 1 million downloads, it firmly puts the browser in the top 0.02% of all applications available in the Android market.

If you are unable to use Flash on your Android device… ie, it has Android 2.1 or lower as an operating system, then Skyfire is well worth checking out. The mobile browser allows you to use flash on your device. [Read more…]

Quadrocopter Now Can Fly Through Moving Hoops

The image you are looking at here is captured from the video below and shows an aggressive quadrocopter flying through a hoop that was thrown in the air.

We have seen the quadrocopter previously. Each time a new video is released, it seems far more advanced than the previous version.

HTC HD7 Spotted in T-Mobile Documents

Documents were recently leaked that reconfirm the existence of the HTC HD7. The HD7 was first spotted a few weeks back in another leaked document and is believed to be the new name for the HD3. The HD7 is believed to be called such because of Windows Phone 7.

The details seen below reveal several accessories for the HD7 along with a date of November 1. The date listed is expected to be the launch data of the accessories rather than the release date of the HD7 although both could in theory be the same. [Read more…]

HTC DROID Incredible to Transition from AMOLED to SLCD

There’s a shortage of AMOLED displays in the world which is forcing HTC to switch to a different screen technology on some of its smartphones. The HTC Desire and Google Nexus One have already transitioned to Super LCD displays. Next up is rumoured to be the HTC DROID Incredible according to a document posted on Android Central.

A new SKU is mentioned in the document which is ADR6300VW3, and the documents goes on to say that the Incredible with SLCD will start shipping by the end of this month. [Read more…]

HTC Desire Z QWERTY Smartphone Running Android Announced

As well as announcing the HTC Desire HD, HTC has also announced the HTC Desire Z today.

The HTC Desire Z has a “pop out” QWERTY keyboard that pops out rather than slides out. The Desire Z will also run Android 2.2 when the phone launches soon.

The processor running in the Desire Z is an 800 MHz Qualcomm MSM7230 which puts it a little slower than the Desire HD although you need to weigh up what you’ll use the smartphone for and if you want or don’t want a physical QWERTY keyboard. [Read more…]

HTC Desire HD Android Smartphone Unveiled

Today, HTC has announced a few new smartphones. The first up is the HTC Desire HD that we have seen a number of times before in various leaks.

Features of the HTC Desire HD include a large 4.3 inch LCD screen. The processor powering the Desire HD is a Qualcomm Snapdragon running at 1GHz. The OS running on the Desire HD will of course be Android 2.2 Froyo and the device will also run HTC Sense which might or might not be a good thing depending on if you like Android 2.2 in plain Vanilla. It is however, the first phone that will hook up the the HTCSense.com system.

The camera on the back is 8 megapixels and has a dual LED flash. The camera is capable of capturing video at 720p HD. [Read more…]
