Nokia C3 Touch and Type Feature Phone Announced

Nokia has announced the Nokia C3 touch and type feature phone. The C3 is similar to the Nokia X3 that launched recently in that it is a series 40 device that has a touchscreen built in.

The C3 has a standard T9 keypad for text entry. The touch screen can be used for navigating around the phone and reading messages. Design wise, the Nokia C3s body is made of stainless steel.

For network connectivity, it can connect up to GSM and EDGE and is quad band. [Read more…]

T-Mobile G2 Specs Officially Announced on HTC Site

HTC has added the T-Mobile G2 to it’s website. Along with the device being listed, we also get another look at all the technical specs of the phone which include the processor, RAM, ROM, Network compatibility, battery capacity and a bunch of other things.

A lot of these details have already been confirmed previously, but now the details have been added to the HTC site, it kind of sets them in stone as it were.

First off, the processor is an 800MHz Qualcomm MSM 7230. It is clocker slower than the 1GHz Snapdragon, but this doesn’t necessarily mean it’s slower. [Read more…]

Verizon to Launch V CAST Apps to Compete with Android Market?

Verizon [VZ] is launching V CAST Apps. This service is an app store that will be similar in some ways to any other app store such as the Android Market. V CAST Apps is for Android 2.2 OS based smartphones.

The Android Market is a fairly open platform that allows a lot of apps to be published by developers. Unfortunately, there is a lot of junk in there. Verizon want to clean up this junk and has created V CAST Apps which allows developers to submit apps for free. If the apps adhere to the guidelines then they are published in the new app store.

It is expected that V CAST Apps will launch in the next week or so at the Verizon developers conference. [Read more…]

LG Optimus One and Optimus Chic Android Smartphones Announced

LG today announced a couple of new Android OS based smartphones. These are the LG Optimus One and the LG Optimus Chic.

When launched, the two new smartphones will run the latest OS from Google [GOOG], Android 2.2.

The LG Optimus One will have a 3.2 inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen and will have a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels. The processor on this device will run at 600Mhz which is a little lower than the norm of 1GHz these days, but hopefully if LG can keep bloatware off the Optimus One, it might run quite swiftly with Android 2.2 installed. webOS 1.4.5 Now Available for Verizon and AT&T Pre Plus

webOS 1.4.5 has become available for the Palm Pre on both the AT&T [T] and Verizon [VZ] networks.

From what we read over at Pre Central, it appears that the GPS functionality is now fixed as a couple of users have reported that the GPS now tracks them at the correct location rather than a mile away.

Other than that it appears that it’s a fairly standard update that brings the 1.4.5 features to the Pre Plus such as the ability to play games like Angry Birds. [Read more…]

Angry Birds for Android Launching in 2 to 3 Weeks

Angry Birds for Android in beta form was launched just last week. Talk Android managed to get an exclusive interview with the developers of the hit game to ask a few questions about the Android version of the game and when we can expect it.

The good news is that the we can expect to see the final release of the game in the next 2 – 3 weeks. For now though, if you have managed to get the Beta version, you’ll just need to make do with the 15 demo levels and see if you can get three stars on each level. [Read more…]

Nokia C6 and C7 Smartphones Announced

Nokia has a number of smartphone announcements today. A few moments ago we wrote about the Nokia E7 QWERTY slider phone that is aimed at business users.

These next two phones are aimed at those who enjoy connecting over social networks. The Nokia C6 and C7 each run the latest OS, Symbian^3. Camera wise, each has an 8 megapixel sensor that is capable of capturing HD video at a 720p resolution.

The Nokia C7 has a 3.5 inch AMOLED display and is built from stainless steel, glass and has soft edges. Price wise it will cost 335 when it launched (price excludes tax and subsidies). [Read more…]

Nokia E7 QWERTY Slider Announced

Nokia has announced the Nokia E7 QWERTY slider smartphone today at Nokia World. The new E7 joins a total of three new releases today which also includes the Nokia C7 and the C6. We’ll get on to those in a later post.

The Nokia E7 is described as being the ultimate business smartphone. Features included in the E7 include Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync on board which allows users to connect live up to corporate email servers to download email, contacts as well as calendar appointments.

The large screen measures 4 inches and is touchscreen. The screen uses what Nokia call ClearBlack technology to help with outdoor visibility. [Read more…]

Android 2.2 Installs Catching up with Android 2.1

Google [GOOG] has once again provided details of Android installs across the range of smartphones that run the OS. New numbers reveal that Android 2.2 is getting adopted by many users although the total number of Android smartphones running 2.2 is still less than a third at 28.7 percent.

The largest share goes to Android 2.1 that is currently installed on 41.7% of Android devices followed by Android 2.2 as listed above. Android 1.6 surprisingly still runs on 17.5% of Android smartphones and that is followed by Android 1.5 that can be found on 12% of devices. [Read more…]

T-Mobile G2 to Cost $150 At Radio Shack

Radio Shack in the US has announced that the T-Mobile G2 will cost $150 when purchased with a two year agreement. This makes it $50 cheaper than getting it at Best Buy who have it ready for pre-order at $199.99, also with a two year agreement.

The information comes from the Twitter account of RadioShack. The tweet says…

The T-Mobile G2 with Google is coming to @RadioShack. Only $149.99 with 2-yr agreement (instant rebate!). Stay tuned for info.

Sony PSP Phone Not Happening this Year According to Sony

Back in August there was a big suggestion that a Sony PSP phone running Android 3.0 could be launched. The rumours also claimed that we could see the PSP Phone within three months of August.

We now hear from Sony that this is not happening. Questioned by Seattle Times, SCEA SVP Peter Dille said about the PSP Phone…

“No new mobile launches this year,” he said in response. “Our strategy is to maintain the PlayStation brand on Sony devices and provide experiences that are exclusive and proprietary.”

Cydia App Bring HDR to iPhone 3G and 3GS

The iOS 4.1 download brings HDR photography to iPhone 4 users only.

HDR works on the iPhone 4 by capturing three photos with slightly different exposure settings. The pictures are then merged together to bring out the dark spots and light spots on a picture so that all details are made visible.

Unfortunately for iPhone 3G and 3GS users, you don’t get access to this as Apple [AAPL] has restricted HDR to the iPhone 4 only. There is good news though… [Read more…]
