HP ePrint Web Printer Service Announced

Earlier today a new series of HP email-able printers were mentioned. No specific details were given other than that they could have email addresses where you simply email the printer what you need printing.

HP has now launched the official announcement of the service including details of how the system works and what you will be able to do with the new printers. The new printers are called HP ePrint. The HP ePrint is web-connected and cloud aware.

What web-connected and cloud aware means is that you can access your printer from anywhere in the world. Documents can be stored in the cloud and printed when needed. Also the printers can connect up to services such as msnbc.com and automatically print out today’s news stories. [Read more…]

HP Printers to get Email Addresses

HP [HPQ] is expected to announce a new range of printers that will each be capable of having an email address. The idea sounds crazy until you look in to what capabilities that will give the printer.

Right now we live in an age where we carry an iPhone, iPad and other devices such as Android phones. Sometimes we want to be able to print but don’t have the necessary cables to do so. If a printer has an email address, you can simply forward the document to that email address, have the document load up on a small screen, check the formatting and hit print.

We are hearing that when the printers launch they will cost in the region of $99 to $400 depending on which model you choose. However, nothing is known yet about the printers other than they can receive emails and print out the documents. We suspect that the higher the price the larger the screen and the more abilities it will have possibly with the lower end not being able to handle attached documents for example. [Read more…]

Apple Magic Trackpad Leak

Leaked images of a new Apple Magic Trackpad were spotted today that reveal Apple [AAPL] could be working on bringing a touch/gesture based interface to the desktop. Apple over the last few years has worked a lot with touchscreen devices such as the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad and have advanced quite far with that technology. The leaked images seem to indicate that a new trackpad will be launching for desktop devices.

The Apple Magic Trackpad looks to be a bluetooth device that sits on your desk and has a similar profile to the Bluetooth keyboard in that a small cylinder on the back elevates the back end of the pad slightly. The magic trackpad would potentially allow you to more easily navigate around the screen and use gestures to swipe between windows for example.

Rumours earlier this year came about a multi-touch trackpad but shortly after seemed to be forgotten about. Also a patent for a “Magic Trackpad” was also unveiled a while back too, so perhaps today is when we will finally hear about this device. [Read more…]

Commodore Invictus gets Inspiration from Eee Keyboard

Commodore has created an ASUS Eee Keyboard style device called the Commodore Invictus.

Not much is known about the device at the moment other than it being Ion-based. The touchscreen to the right of the keyboard uses resistive touch with a stylus. Wireless HDMI is built in and it is believed to have a 5+ hour battery installed.

It also appears to be running Windows XP from what we see on the small screen in the picture. [Read more…]

Hitachi 7mm Thick Laptop Hard Drive Unveiled

Hitachi has created a range of new hard drives that measure just 7mm thick. The new super slim drives are 2.5 inches in size.

Two versions have been launched called the TravelStar and the CinemaStar. The two versions are built for different tasks. The TravelStar drives were designed to function in laptops and other portable devices while the CinemaStar drives are optimised for media such as audio and video streaming.

Each model has low power consumption requirements as well as shock resistance, quiet acoustics and of course, they are just 7mm thick making them a good candidate for the new Intel Canoe Lake laptops that could potentially measure just 15mm thick in total. [Read more…]

LaCie Rugged Biometric Fingerprint Safe External Drive Announced

LaCie has created a new rugged portable storage hard drive that adds not only ruggedness on the outside, but increased data security. The new drive has a biometric fingerprint scanner built in. To access the data on the drive the user needs to swipe a finger. If the fingerprint matches, access is allowed. If not, the data stays encrypted.

The encryption used on the rugged hard drive is 128-bit AES hardware based encryption that uses the finger print reader to decrypt the data.

The physical side of things show that the drive uses a military grade shock proof enclosure to allow the unit to take a bit of a beating while still preserving the data safely. When we say it can take a beating, we mean it can be dropped or hit with something hard without compromising what is stored within. [Read more…]

Team 64GB SDXC Card

Team is about to launch a new SDXC card that has an impressive 64GB capacity.

SDXC cards are fairly new to the storage scene and follow along the lines of SD cards in that they have the same form factor, but also have capacities of up to 2TB in size.

Speed wise, the Team 64GB SDXC memory card achieves a 30MB/second read speed. With that amount of storage it makes it possible to store 136,000 high resolution pictures. [Read more…]

Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid Drive

Seagate has announced the launch of the Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid Drive. The Momentus XT combines a mixture of a regular hard drive and SSD storage to create a fast hybrid storage solution.

The system uses what Seagate call Adaptive Memory technology that allows the drive to deliver SSD performance. The SSD chips can hold 4GB of data which is filled by the more commonly used files such as operating system files, programs and data. By moving them to SSD it allows fast access. As your computer usage changes the technology adapts and moves the new files to the SSD portion of the drive.

The Momentus XT can be used in regular laptops and the drive system runs completely separate to the drivers making it far easier to integrate with a system. [Read more…]

Corsair ultra high-speed Force Series SSDs in 60GB – 240GB Capacities

Corsair has launched three new SSDs (solid state drives) as part of the Force Series.

The three new drives include the F60, F120 and F240 and each has a capacity of 60GB, 120GB and 240GB respectively. Each drive uses the Sandforce SF-1200 SSD processors that allow superior EXX data protection (in the words of Corsair) and excellent write endurance.

All Corsair Force Series SSDs are built using the Sandforce SF-1200 SSD Processors, which provide unparalleled write endurance, superior ECC data protection, and outstanding performance. Corsair engineers worked closely with Sandforce to implement and qualify firmware which guarantees the unusually fast 4K random write performance of 180 MB/s, measured using the ATTO benchmark. This elevated 4K write speed generates 15K IOPs, resulting in excellent system performance and responsiveness. All Force Series SSDs implement the ATA TRIM command, supported by Windows® 7, which helps to maintain optimal performance over the drive’s lifetime.

Seagate 3TB Hard Drive to Ship Later this Year

Seagate is launching a new hard drive later this year with a huge capacity of 3TB. The new 3TB drive won’t function on all computers though due to it’s sheer size.

Back in the 80’s the standard set for hard drives restricted them to 2.1 TB (a limit they might have thought couldn’t be achieved on a single drive). Due to this restriction the only way the drive will work is when using a 64-bit operating system. In particular, Windows XP will not work and you’ll need to choose a 64-bit variant of either Windows Vista or Windows 7. Also, some modified versions of Linus will be capable of running this drive.

No formal announcement has been made about the drive, but we expect that we will hear something later this year prior to the release of the mammoth drive. [Read more…]
