Someone thought it would be cool to make a lego (working) AT-ST from starwars. Check out the video although it has developed some kind of funky limp 🙂
Cheap Wi-Fi Routers
A company in Spain are creating a cheap wi-fi router which is set to cost only $5. The reason for this is that they want to promote the use of home wi-fi networks in to becoming public hot spots. To me it sounds like a great idea although the fear could be people using a wi-fi spot for illegal purposes and then the blame being passed to the bill payer. So, they would probably need to use some kind of proxy service so that users need to log on. Also ISP’s will need to back this up too.

Nokia N80 Video Review
This is a bit late coming 🙂 But still worth a post. The Nokia N80 (out now) has the added bonus of wifi built in (which the N70 does not). This is a great move for Nokia because no one likes the sucky charges that WAP, GPRS, 3G etc… impose on us… so a wifi connection is just great. What I like about the N80 is the browser shown below. It can shrink down and then you can move a box around which will zoom in to where you want to see on the web site. Helps immensly for sidewards scrolling which should be made illegal 😉

Bullet Proof iPod
Have you ever walked down the street and had your iPod shot at? I guess the inventor of this case has because he has made a bullet proof iPod case. Ok… well thats not true. He didnt make it this way because of having been shot at. He made it because he loves his iPod (dont we all!) and was fed up of it being crushed in the Japanese subway. Regular cases didnt do the trick, so he made the rather tasty Bullet Proof iPod case.
As can be seen above, it is a huge heavy case which is 5mm thick, made of aliminium and can stop a .22 bullet.
Qool Labs QDA Lite and QDA Icon
Qool labs, another company I have never heard of, have launched the QDA Lite and QDA Icon.
Quote from UberGizmo
The QDA Lite and QDA Icon from Qool Labs’ are actually repackaged devices, with the former being the Lite-On Phoenix 2 and the latter a TechFaith Wireless prototype. The QDA Lite is powered by an Intel PXA270 520MHz processor and comes with 64MB RAM, 128MB ROM, tri-band GSM/GPRS support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, USB Host, a 2.0-megapixel camera, an SDIO/SD/MMC slot, a 2.8″ QVGA (240 x 320) TFT-LCD, 1240mAh battery, and Windows Mobile 5.0. The QDA Icon has less detailed specs, but it is confirmed to carry GSM/GPRS/Bluetooth/WiFi connectivity, a 4 megapixel camera, and a 2.4″ QVGA (240 x 320) TFT LCD.
Bell + Howell 10 Megapixel Camera
Bell + Howell have created a 10 megapixel digital camera which is to be launched soon at $219. It has some cut down features and is classed as a camera for extremely casual beginners in the digital camera scene. It measures just 0.875″ in thickness, has 8x digital zoom, 16Mb built in memory and a much needed SD card slot. Also it can make videos and has a 1.5″ colour LCD screen. It doesnt look too great in my opinion and for being 10 megapixel I would have expected more built in memory as well as a better screen as well as optical zoom 🙂 Not much more I want other then that.

Sony Vaio Type U
I have had my eye on the the Sony Vaio Type U. According to Sony, is to switch from a 20/30Gb model to use a 16Gb flash memory. This is great news in some ways because it gives the device an increase to 4 hours. Other specs of the device have not changes from the 1.06Ghz/1.2Ghz depending on the model as well as the 1.3 Megapixel motion-eye camera. It goes on sale on the 13th July for $1798.

Nintendo DS MegaDrive Case Mod
Up until today I have never heard of someone modding a DS. Maybe I am just slow and not with the times any more. At any rate, someone has modded a Nintendo DS case to look like the good old Japanese Megadrive (the one with the red instead of gray) on the top of it. It also features the cool 16-Bit on the top too 🙂 Great fun!
