Pure Highway is an “easy to install” DAB digital radio for your car. Due to it’s rubber suction mount it can easily install on the windscreen of your car the same way a sat nav device would attach. Once mounted in the car it is powered by your lighter socket and has an aerial which attaches to the windscreen. Once ready the DAB digital radio will broadcast an FM signal which is picked up by your radio (like the iTrip on the iPod) and you just tune in to an available channel on your radio and experience the full DAB service. If you want to listen on foot then they have covered this too. The radio can be powered by 2 AA batteries which provide 6 hours of play. Headphones can be also attached.

The Pure Highway will cost £69.99 when it is launched in time for Christmas.

If you ever wondered what you would find in a digital camera but were too afraid that you were going to bust up your expensive one then cnet have done the hard work for you. They cracked open a fairly standard 3.3 mega pixel camera to see what was found inside. Once several screws were removed they pulled the case apart and found various bits and pieces which are covered over at CNET. Inside the camera you will find the flash and capacitor which is used to hold the charge that allows the flash to function. Also inside you will find a view finder, LCD screen, CCD, battery compartment and the circuit boards that make it all work.

Here is the new Mobile Phone coming from Three and Skype. We were able to get our hands on a couple of them to give them some testing.

The phone has a 2 Megapixel camera, 3G connectivity 256Mb of inbuilt memory and can search the mobi-web. The phone also features a dedicated ‘Skype’ key to allow you to see which contacts are online. Charging is done via usb, which is always handy!

The phone is free on 18month contracts or £50 on Pay As You Go (PAYG). Currently these models we have do not feature Skype In or Out, and No video calling, but we are told that these will be working in the future. Each month you get 100 minutes/texts and 10,000 chat session instant messages.

Of course, you get a Three number and a regular sim-card to use the phone as a normal mobile phone. Apparently though, if you go abroad and want to use it you may be subject to Roaming Charges! (Be warned)

The phone packaging states that it is made by Amoi, and designed by Three and Amoi together.

This is only a quick glimpse of the phone, and a full review will be here within a couple of days, so check back to see what our findings are. We will let you know the battery life, camera quality and all those other things you NEED to know before you buy one!

From our initial findings it seems like a nice, easy phone to use which looks like it may well be a good smooth integration between Three and Skype.

iChat was supposed to have a Star Wars hologram effect in Leopard, however, this was missing as it didn’t make it to the final cut. A mod has been made to create this effect in iChat. To get it to work you need to copy the install file over on to your computer by following the instructions below. Good luck and let us know how it works for you if you are a Leopard user.

You simply copy the .qtz file into your {HardDriveName}/Library/Compositions/ directory. The new effect will appear in iChat and can be seen by anyone (they don’t have to install the effect). An early version of the effect is available in this thread.

Update: Ice-Cube posts how to get this effect into PhotoBooth:

1. Extract HoloGit.qtz from the zip file.
2. Place it on your desktop for easy access.
3. Go to photobooth in your applications folder and right click to *Show package contents*
4. Navigate to content>resources
5. Drag the HoloGit.qtz file from the desktop to this folder.
6. Locate the file *EffectsOrdering.plist* in this folder
7. Open the file with textedit
8. You should see a number of effects listed in that file. You should see user backdrop 1, user backdrop 2, and so forth in the last paragraph.
9. Replace the words *user backdrop 1* to *HoloGit*
It should look like this: /HoloGit
10. Save the file. Close all folders.
11. Open up photobooth and enjoy your newfound effect.

EOTech are a company which make holographic sights for guns. The video demonstrates how this is seen from behind the gun and how it is invisible to those not looking through the sight.

This light bulb is powered by static electricity. To light it up you just hold it and slide your feet on the floor. The static electricity created will power the bulb and give out light. Although not practical due to the low amount of light it can generate, it would make for a good experiment in static electricity for kids. It costs $4.95 and is available from Edmund Scientific.

One way of defeating crime is to dress up like a vending machine and hide amongst other machines. That’s at least what the creator of this vending machine dress thinks. It works by using camouflage and deception allowing for a quick take down of the thief. So far 20 of these vending machine skirts have been sold for $800 each according to the NYT. I am not sure if this is just an early April fools joke 😉

The DNA speakers are flexible speakers in the shape of DNA which can be twisted in to any shape you want. If there are two of you listening to the music then bend the speaker towards them so you can both listen in full glory. This is not the usual type of gadget I write about, but what the heck. It will come in handy for everyone if they are feeling lazy. The one touch can opener opens up a can of bake beans or anything else by sitting it on top and hitting the black button. Amazon mention it does all the hard work (not that opening a can of beans really is hard work). The device also has a magnet so the lid comes off rather then dropping in to the can and it will open almost any round can. It is powered by 2 AA batteries and currently costs £12.99 in the UK and $14.99 in the US.

If you are the lazy sort and cannot be bothered cleaning the laminate flooring then Slipper Genie is the answer. Underneath it has microfiber fingers which gather dust and dirt as you walk around. They will work on any smooth surface such as tiles or vinyl. The bottoms can be taken off and are machine washable. They are for dry floors only, so no jumping in a bucket thinking they are a mop.

Costing just $9.99 you have a very easy way of cleaning up the dirt around your floor.
