Ana-Digi E Ink Watch from Phosphor

phoshpor_e_ink_watch
The Ana-Digi watch is excellent as it sports an E-Ink display behind the regular analogue hands. This allows you to make changes to the style of watch face at the push of a button. With the display being E-Ink, it is very low powered allowing the watch to carry on functioning with out any major battery issues. I have to admit that it is a great looking watch and with the option of changing style from black to white, and adding numbers makes the watch more attractive. Prices are $250 for either of the 2 versions which feature a leather band or Polyurethane band.

Sony OLED TV Opened Up

Sony OLED Screen
When splashing out a large amount of dollars on a 3mm thin screen the last thing you probably think of is hacking it open to see what’s inside. Of course we are now in the internet age and crazy people are out there which do this type of stuff regularly. Nikkeibp is one example as they have taken the screw drivers to the new Sony thin OLED screen to see what you find inside. Check out another picture after the jump.

Automatic Projection Calibration

Automatic Projector Calibration
Johnny Chung Lee headed up a team which created a cool projection calibration system which could work out where a small screen is and adjust the image to match the perspective. It works by having 4 or more sensors in a small plate which detect light. Once the position of the sensors is determined the image is then adjusted. The process takes just seconds to find the new location of the screen and once found, adjusts immediately to match. This is ideal for presentations where you need to quickly line up a screen but cannot find a place directly in front of the screen. If you put the projector to the side then it will adjust automatically to straighten out the image.

On the video below you will see a VW Beetle that has a number of sensors added and the wheels are projected in to the right place regardless of what angle the car is turned.

It’s excellent stuff with a lot of potential.

Packaging for TV Changes in to a Stand

One unique idea for using the packaging of your new HDTV is to convert it in to a TV stand. Tom Ballhatchet has created a short video of the process of unpacking the TV and then using the packaging to make a TV stand for the screen.

eMail Enabled Digital Photo Frame

eStarling eMail Wi-fi Photo Frame
The eStarling digital photo frame is a tad different to your average photo frame. It has wi-fi, but the unique part of the frame is the ability for it to pick up images from emails or from RSS feeds. This allows you to email photos from anywhere in the world and then the pictures in the email will show up automatically on the frame. An example could be where your frame is on a wall at your grandma’s house and you and the family are on holiday. So that granny can keep up with what is happening on holiday you just email photo’s to her photo frame. Let’s just hope that no spam reaches the mail box.

The next unique feature of the eStarling frame is web based access allowing you to control what photo’s appear on the frame where ever it is in the world. If you do not want family shots then connect it up to flikr with phrases such as “cool Japanese robots” and the frame will automatically download and display a flikr stream of jap robots.

When receiving the photo frame you connect it to your PC via a USB cable. This allows you to configure the wi-fi connection and connect it up to your own network. Once this part is done you do not need the USB cable anymore except when reconfiguring the wireless settings and IP information.

Security for email is also available where you can assign the digital photo frame it’s own email address (something random at your domain.com) and then configure it to only receive emails from particular email addresses should you wish.

Storage on the digital photo frame is either a compact flash or SD card.

To be honest, it looks like one killer photo frame with a lot more fancy features then the rest. Of course, a lot of people are content with just the one picture on the wall. Should you like to mess around and change the scenery then this could be for you.

3 versions of the frame are available which are 2 at 7″ which display 480 x 270 pixels and an 8″ version at 800 x 600 pixels. The difference between the 2 7″ frame is that one has an external wi-fi antenna.

Prices range from $149.99 – $269.99.

Round LCD Screen

tmd circular
Toshiba have created an LCD screen that is not the usual rectangle shape. This one is round. It is designed for use in cars on instrument panels and it measures just 2.95″ in diameter which is about a perfect fit for your dash board. The screen is just 11mm thick and this includes the backlights and other electronics needed to work the screen. Viewable area of the screen is 2.44″ diameter.

What I look forwards to is this being hackable. It will allow more customisation of your dashboard allowing easier colours on the eye as well as other information to be displayed.

Online Only Media Wall

Multi Touch Display
The online only media wall features a massive 8 by 3 foot screen which works as your canvas. The canvas is multi touch allowing you and other people to work together on the wall dragging pictures around, zooming in to them. Also it is used for manipulating data. From the video demonstration we can see that the motion does seem quite smooth when loading, resizing and shifting images around. Although this is not a new idea as we have seen something similar before, I am still impressed with what it does. However, it will set you back around $100,000. Check out the movie over here.
