iPad 2 Case is Smaller: Original iPad Wont Fit

We’ve been hearing that the new iPad 2 will be a bit smaller than the original although it will still retain the same 9.7 inch screen. This of course means that the relatively fat bezel will actually be made smaller.

Some possible proof may have been found to indicate how much smaller the new iPad 2 will be and from what we see, it wont be by a huge amount although it will be a tad thinner too.

MIC Gadget managed to get hold of a real iPad 2 case that has a camera hole in the back as well as being slightly smaller and thinner. Apparently, the case seen in the embedded video below is a case that has held a real iPad 2 and not just a mockup model like previously seen. [Read more…]

Apple Takes 60 Percent of Global Touch Panel Capacity

Reports indicate that Apple has managed to secure 60 percent of the global touch screen capacity and in turn, could possibly create shortages for the rest of the industry.

iPad 2 Could Switch from IPS to PLS Display

Although we’ve heard that the iPad 2 wont have a Retina Display, we now hear that the screen technology behind the next gen iPad could be enhanced. The current model uses what is called IPS which means In Plane Switching. What this does is allows for wide viewing angles and a generally clear display.

We now hear that the iPad 2 will start to use PLS screen technology instead. PLS means Plane to Line Switching which offers even further clarity and even wider viewing angles.

The actual PLS technology supposedly being used is Super PLS which was first unveiled by Samsung a few months ago. [Read more…]

iPad 2 Goes in to Production – Cameras Included

Apple has given the go ahead for the iPad 2 to go in to production. This is according to the WSJ who reported that the second generation tablet device would have a front facing camera allowing video calls to be made.

We also hear more confirmations that the screen will not be a higher resolution. Earlier reports have been swayed both ways with some saying the screen will be retina and others saying it will be the same but thinner with a thinner bezel around the edge. This report from the WSJ hints at it not getting a retina display this time around although this could happen on the iPad 3. [Read more…]

iPad 2 Screen Captured – Thins Down the Bezel

Pictures of the iPad 2 screen have leaked on to the Internet. What we see is a comparison between the iPad and the iPad 2 display. The new one is thinner by about 1mm and also has a slimmer bezel which should help shrink the iPad 2 down a little in size.

Some investigations have revealed that the screen will still have the 1024×768 resolution and not be retina as originally rumored. This is thanks to the model number found on a sticker with the reference number LP097x02 SLN1. Each of those sets of digits has a meaning such as it being created by LG Phillips, 097 refers to it being a 9.7 inch screen, SL means H-IPS and N1 is unknown at the moment. The 02 refers to the resolution. [Read more…]
