Apple iPad to get Wi-Fi Fix

A number of Apple iPad users have noted that the Wi-Fi connectivity has been quite bad with connections often dropping. Reasons for this have been determined by some to be the DHCP lease expiring where the iPad needs to grab a new IP address and in so doing, has problems for some reason.

Temporary fixes have included disabling and re-enabling wifi on the iPad and in some cases, power-cycling the iPad (ie, switching it right off and back on). Of course, these work-arounds are not the ideal thing to have to do for something that should just work.

We are hearing good news though in that Apple [AAPL] are intending to fix the issue with a software fix sometime soon. It isn’t clear when a firmware fix will be release and how it will all work, but we assume it will be a 3.2.1 release or similar and hopefully they don’t make us wait till the iPad iPhone OS 4.0 release later on this year. Sony VAIO P Series Teardown

Just hours after receiving details of the new Sony VAIO P Series (second gen model), we now get to see all the insides of the lime green version.

The new Sony VAIO P Series was first announced this morning where we learned that it has a GPS built in along with accelerometers, 3G data connectivity amongst a few other new features.

Vodafone Change/Reword UK Apple iPad Data Tariff – Unlimited is limited to 5GB

Update: The limit of 5GB has been returned to 5GB from unlimited… ie, no change except for the deceiving wording has been removed from the Apple site.

Earlier today the Apple iPad was made available for pre-order in the UK amongst other countries. For those pre-ordering an Apple iPad WiFi+3G model, information was presented for 3 of the UK mobile phone providers. Vodafone was listed where they offered two tariffs of 1GB/month for £10/month or 5GB for £25/month.

This information was later confirmed by way of a press release received about 4pm which read as follows…

Data Fee
1GB £10
5GB £25

On the Apple order pages we now see that Vodafone is now offering an “Unlimited” bundle for £25 and it appears they have scrapped the 5GB limit… until you read the the small print which indicates the word unlimited actually means there is still a limit of 5GB, or a fair use policy as they word it. Apple iPad to get Printing Support

Although the iPad has proved successful for Apple [AAPL], there are still a number of complaints which range from there being no camera to no flash support and on to no printing support. The latter of these has now been addressed by Steve Jobs himself.

One guy decided to email Steve Jobs and ask him direct why the Apple iPad had no printing support to which Steve Jobs answered in his classic one liners, “It will come”.

Although this tells us nothing about release dates and how it will happen, at least it appears that something is in the pipeline for printing support on the Apple iPad. [Read more…]

MacBook Air to get Updated this Week – Rumour

We are hearing rumours today that the MacBook Air from Apple [AAPL] could be receiving an update as early as this week. The new product number is said to be MC516LL/A K87 BETTER BTR-USA. The same source of the information also correctly identified updates to the MacBook Pro that occurred a few weeks back.

The last update to the MacBook Air happened back in June 2009 and according to Mac Rumors, the Air is now overdue an update.

However, it isn’t certain if the product ID relates to the MacBook Air, or perhaps an LCD screen. Either way, several thousand units are said to be heading to Australia where a major product launch is happening this week. [Read more…]

Sony VAIO P Series – New Models Announced

The new ultra-portable PCs weigh just over 600g and have a number of new features which includes a GPS sensor and a Digital Compass along with an accelerometer. 3G is built in to the new VAIO P series also allowing connectivity whilst on the move.

On the keyboard a trackball can be found along with a couple of buttons. Also duplicated is a set of more mouse controls that can be found at the edges of the screen. Both a touchpad and left/right mouse buttons can be found down the left/right side of the screen allowing you to control the ultra-portable VAIO P with your thumbs as pictured above. [Read more…]

HP Hurricane Tablet to be based on webOS

Several months ago, Microsoft [MSFT] and HP announced that the HP Slate was to launch this year. The device was designed to run Windows 7 and was set to be a large competitor in the tablet arena. Just last week, HP announced that they had shelved the HP Slate which was rumoured to be because of HP buying Palm and potentially a webOS tablet being built.

We now hear that HP will be launching a webOS based tablet that will be called the HP Hurricane and will have a launch date of quarter 3 2010.

No details are available just yet about what the tablet will run in terms of a processor, RAM, storage and connectivity but we have to say that it does sound interesting as we have heard good things about webOS. [Read more…]

WePad Tablet renamed WeTab

Back in March we wrote about the WePad that was designed to take on the iPad. The company behind the WePad called Neofonie, have decided to change the name to WeTab.

The reasons for the name change are not clear although it could be related to Apple applying a bit of pressure, or perhaps Neofonie just getting a little scared and wanting to separate their product a little.

The WeTab is an 11.6 inch touchscreen device that has a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. It is powered by an Intel Atom N450 processor and has integrated Intel GMA 3150 graphics. [Read more…]
