Inklet App Converts Multi-Touch MacBook TrackPad in to Drawing Tablet

The Inklet App is designed for MacBooks that have the multi-touch trackpad installed. What it does is converts the trackpad in to a drawing tablet. When used in conjunction with a Pogo Sketch it allows for pressure to be detected too.

Features included allow it to function with Adobe Photoshop. By using multi-touch gestures the software can be modified to create smaller windows to work within, or the option to move the application around the canvas allowing drawings in other locations of the screen. [Read more…]

Rumour: Apple Snaps up All Available Supplies of 10.1 in LCD/OLED Screens

I was hoping that rumours were coming to an end today after the crazy Apple 4G rumour we posted this morning, but unluckily I came across another about the Apple iSlate again. This time an unknown source has told TG Daily that Apple have purchased all available supplies of 10.1 inch LCD and OLED multi-touch displays for an upcoming device.

“We were designing a product for a customer and we needed 10 inch screens, but we’ve been trying for months and can’t get one from any of the Asian suppliers,” an anonymous designer for a firm wishing to remain nameless told TG Daily.

ASUS Eee 1005PE Gets Atom N450 and 14 Hour Battery Life

ASUS had a number of new netbooks on display at CES this year that included the ASUS Eee 1005PE model. What makes this model stand out is it’s impressive 14 hour battery life. The reason for the increase is down to the new Intel Atom N450 processor that the 1005PE uses that requires less power to run, thus allowing for longer usage between charges.

The ASUS 1005PE follows on from the excellent selling 1005HA model. It has a 10.1 inch LCD screen that can display 1024×600 pixels. The Intel Atom N450 processor runs at 1.66GHz and the netbook has 1GB of DDR2 memory installed that can be upgraded to 2GB if desired. [Read more…]

HP Slate Revealed at CES

At the Microsoft [MSFT] keynote at CES, Steve Ballmer showed off the new HP Slate that will be launching later this year. Not much information was provided about it although it was seen running the PC Kindle app. The HP Slate is Windows based (I assume Windows 7) and features multitouch.

Gaming can be done on the Slate but the only game shown on the demo was Frogger which isn’t really an intensive app.

The front of the devices houses the screen that looks to be somewhere between the 9 and 11 inch range along with a border around it. There are no buttons on the front of the HP Slate. Around the sides there are a few buttons which I assume are to wake it up, switch wireless on as well as changing the volume, but as this is currently a prototype this could potentially change. Microsoft Tablet to be Announced Today

We have heard on a weekly basis about Apple [AAPL] building a tablet device probably to be called the Apple iSlate. What we haven’t heard much about is Microsoft [MSFT] creating a tablet other than a couple of mentions of the Microsoft Courier a few months ago that’s more of a split screen booklet rather than a tablet. What we hear today though is that Steve Ballmer will be unveiling a tablet at CES during his keynote speech.

If this happens it will come weeks before a rumoured unveiling of Apple’s iSlate which could either be a good or a bad thing. If done right then it wont be another “me-too” type device and hopefully this is the case. [Read more…]

Lenovo have announced details of the Skylight smartbook that is very thin and light. The Skylight is a 10 inch screen device that has a decent battery life of 10 hours allowing for all day usage between charges.

The smartbook weighs under two pounds and runs a version of Linux from what we can tell that uses a system of widgets on the home screen that are updated real time from the web. Connectivity for the Skylight is provided by a built in 3G connection and wifi is also available to use.

One of the unique features of the Lenovo Skylight is an integrated USB memory stick that sits between the keyboard and the screen. This can be removed if required by simply rotating it out of the smartbook and disconnecting it. [Read more…]

New Dell Mini 10 with Intel Atom N450 Launches Today

Dell have launched their new Dell Mini 10 netbook that comes supplied with the all new Intel Atom N450 processor.

The new Dell Mini 10 is thinner and has a more sleek design. The keyboard on this netbook measures 92% of a full keyboard and the palm rest area is now textured allowing for less smudges to appear on the lower side of the netbook.

For the Mini 10 a new hinge has been created allowing a slimmer device that can still hold a decent sized battery. Three batteries are available for the Mini 10 with the 3 cell version offering 4 hours of usage while the two 6 cell versions offer about 8.5 and 9.5 hours each. Also both the 3 cell and 6 cell batteries measure the same size meaning that the mini 10 netbook wont have any additional bulk if you opt for the larger of the batteries. [Read more…]
