LG Optimus Pad to Launch at MWC 2011

LG has announced that the LG Optimus Pad. This particular model is a European 3G version of the G-Tablet.

It runs an NVIDIA Tegra 2 chip inside. It has an 8.9 inch screen that uses capacitive touch. The battery is 6,400 mAh. As for the operating system, it will run Android 3.0 Honeycomb when it launches. [Read more…]

ASUS Eee EP121 Slate Launches

ASUS has launched the Eee EP121 Slate. This particular tablet device runs the Windows 7 operating system.

The screen measures 12.1 inches and has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The screen is also capacitive and has an electromagnetic panel that allows a stylus to be used for more precise input. [Read more…]

Android 3.0 Honeycomb Event Uploaded to Youtube

Yesterday saw the official unveiling of Android 3.0 Honeycomb. This new version of Android 3.0 has been designed for tablet computers although we heard recently that it isn’t restricted to just tablets.

The unveiling has been uploaded to YouTube and in the video, you’ll get to see the Motorola Xoom tablet demonstrated along with a number of features such as how the email system works. Google also describe a new system that Google calls fragments. Fragments are used to put together apps so that when Android 3.0 runs on a smaller device, parts can easily be pulled out such as the preview pane when on a smaller screen. [Read more…]

T-Mobile G-Slate with 8.9 Inch Screen and Tegra 2 Unveiled

T-Mobile has announced the LG G-Slate. This particular tablet has an 8.9 inch screen and runs an NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor. The operating system that will run on the G-Slate is Android 3.0.

The 8.9 inch screen has a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels allowing users to watch 720p HD video. A unique feature of this particular tablet is that it has a couple of cameras on the back capable of capturing 3D pictures. [Read more…]

Android 3.0 Honeycomb Not Just for Tablets

Earlier today we posted that Android 3.0 Honeycomb had some hints in the SDK that it would work on smartphone sized devices as well. This was found, thanks to the emulator that allowed the resolution to be set at a smartphone size rather than a large tablet size.

In an interview with All Things D, one of the guys from Google, Matias Duarte, said the following…

“Tablet was the focus, but the changes we did also free it up to be more flexible for other contexts as well, it’s about really eliminating all the barriers to all the different kinds of form factors that people might want to interact with.”

iPad 2 1.2GHz Dual Core CPU Rumored

More details of the iPad 2 have leaked out in the last couple of days. This time, the rumors/leaks revolve around the screen, processor and the size of the tablet.

The first rumor hints at Apple opting for a 1.2GHz dual core processor. The processor will be the Cortex A9 and as well as having the dual core processor, hints at it having an Imagination Technologies SGX 543 dual core GPU have also been mentioned. We also hear that RAM will be bumped up to 512MB rather than the 256MB available on the current iPad. [Read more…]

Nook Color Android 3.0 Download Now Available

We mentioned yesterday that Android 3.0 was ported over to a rooted Nook Color. We hear today that the Android 3.0 download is now available.

The Honeycomb port needs to run from an SD card and the developer who managed to port it over has managed to get several functions working on the device. [Read more…]

PlayBook and BlackBerry Connection Demonstrated on Video

You probably know that the PlayBook from RIM is a device that can, in some ways, work alone. But for the corporate email type stuff, the device actually needs to be tethered to a BlackBerry smartphone to function correctly.

Up until this video (embedded below) was released, many were just taking a guess at exactly how the connection between the two devices would work. Thankfully, we now know exactly what to expect.

What we see in the video is the PlayBook connected wirelessly up to a BlackBerry Torch and with that connection, the PlayBook is able to check email and edit what is on the BlackBerry. However, the data is just on loan so to speak, as when the connection is broken, the emails are removed from the PlayBook and cannot be accessed until a connection is restored. [Read more…]

NookColor Runs Android 3.0 Honeycomb

When the NookColor was launched a few months back, it showed great potential as a cheap Android tablet. This was mainly due to it being rooted. You see, it runs the Android operating system and out of the box, it boots up to the Nook app which in turn, keeps Android in the background.

Kindle eBooks Outsell Paperback Books

It appears that Amazon has managed to do what many thought would take a lot longer. The company announced on its quarterly call that since the beginning of the year for every 100 paperback books sold at Amazon, there have been 115 Kindle eBooks sold.

Last year, hard cover books were also kicked out by the Kindle in that for every 100 of them sold, Amazon was shifting 143 which is an even more impressive ratio. We now hear that this figure is about 300 to 100 in favor of the Kindle ebook. [Read more…]
