Samsung App Store Hits 1 Million Downloads

Samsung has announced that the Samsung App store just passed 1 million downloads. At the moment there are just over 200 apps in the store which isn’t really anything when compared to the likes of the Apple store, but when 200 apps have achieved over a million downloads, that’s quite impressive. Also note that we are talking about TV’s downloading the apps here. [Read more…]

YouTube Lets you Now Skip Ads

YouTube has added a new feature today that allows you to skip past the TrueView ads that show on some content.

This may seem a little odd and you might expect the advertisers to hate this, but it’s actually the opposite as advertisers at the moment are all for it. Basically, when you start viewing a video that has an ad playing before it, you have a countdown timer that counts from 5 to zero. Once at zero you can click to skip the ad, or not click to view it. An EU report indicates that the European governments are in danger of missing targets for fast broadband roll out. The target is that every European will have broadband access by 2013.

Neelie Kroes, Commission vice-president for the digital agenda.

“In particular, we need urgent agreement on our proposal to ensure radio spectrum is available for mobile broadband, for which demand is growing very fast.”

Virgin Media Public WiFi Could Launch Soon

Virgin Media is looking at options to roll out public WiFi across the UK to ease the burden placed on mobile phone networks. In recent years, perhaps since the launch of the iPhone, mobile phone networks have had to cope with far more data usage than ever before. With Twitter, Facebook and other popular websites being accessed on the go, the burden isn’t going to lower any time soon.

What Virgin Media plans to do is launch WiFi in those locations where data might not be at its best. The system will work by installing a wireless router in locations near the Virgin Media green boxes. These will allow users to connect right up to the cable network for broadband access at speeds up to 5MBps. [Read more…]

Dell Logo Gets Subtle Change

Back in 2007, Dell had more than 800 creative agencies around the world working on the Dell brand. This created a number of problems such as there being more than 15 different typefaces for Dell in the English language as well as a number of slightly different logos.

With that in mind, Dell is now moving to a single logo design (pictured below) that will be used across all Dell products. The colour of it isn’t just blue, it’s actually called Dell Blue and isn’t available in any colour book. [Read more…]
