After a few months of waiting we now have the first external hard drive launch that is Thunderbolt compatible. The drive comes from LaCie and comes in a few different capacities of 1TB, 2TB or a 500GB SSD model.
The drive actually has two HDs inside which can be configured in either RAID 0 or RAID 1 which means you can either get more speed or a backup of your date incase one of the drives breaks down.
The 1TB model costs $400 and uses 7200 RPM discs. The 2TB model costs $500 and has 5400 RPM disks. The SSD model will launch next month and will be capable of transfer speeds of up to 480MB/s which is a lot more than the 190MB/s that the hard drives are capable of.
