Facebook users upload 100 Million photos per day to the social network site. Numbers also suggest that 99% of users also have uploaded at least 1 picture. Facebook has decided to improve this part of the site by adding face detection to the upload process.
People love tagging their friends and family in photos, but we’ve heard that it can be a tedious process. You now can add tags with just a couple of clicks directly from your home page and other sections of the site, using the same face detection technology that cameras have used for years. We’re running a limited test of this technology so you may not see it yet.
The new feature makes tagging a lot faster as it does some of the work for you. When a photo is available it detects the face and simply lets you type in the name of who that person is.
Facebook say that this is just one of many improvements coming. Perhaps in the future it can use facial recognition to fill in the details for you… that might be a while away yet though.
