Pre-orders for the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the UK have been suspended by Vodafone. The reason for it is due to the problems between Apple and Samsung over in Germany where a court ruling has prevented sale of the tablet in the European Union.
Speaking to Pocket-Lint, Vodafone told them the following:
“We’re aware of legal proceedings between Apple and Samsung in Germany in connection with the Galaxy Tab 10.1. We’re in discussions with Samsung about the position in the UK. In the meantime, we will be suspending pre-orders and contacting customers who have already placed orders. We will update our customers as soon as possible,”
The disruption currently only effects pre-orders and not those devices that are already shipping to retailers. The block is also temporary while the courts examine the evidence of the patent claim.
The reason Apple is pursuing this is to protect its intellectual property of which it says Samsung has copied the look and feel of the Apple iPad.
