Android Developers has released the December statistics which reveal what fragmentation is like across various Android versions. The numbers are released so that developers can know where to prioritize when developing apps for Android.
The data is gathered based on what devices have accessed the Android Market over a 14 day period. What we see here is that Ice Cream Sandwich is now mentioned on the chart with a 0.6% share. In the lead is Android 2.3 Gingerbread which is installed on 55.5% of all Android devices.
When Ice Cream Sandwich starts to be adopted on other smartphones we expect 2.3 to decline with ICS gaining most of those percentage points. New devices that come pre-installed with Ice Cream Sandwich will also show those numbers rise.
