Three UK has been selected as a 3G connectivity partner for the new Google Chromebooks that were announced earlier this week.
Over on the Google Chromebook website we see that several options are available for 3G subscription services. Three will be offering plans that start at £2.99/month and move up to £25/month all dependent on how much data you need and want.
As can be seen below, the first 3GB of data is free and can be used over the first three months. After that, you can choose a 500MB day pass for £2.99, or 1 month plans which cost £10, £15 and £25/month where you get 1GB, 3GB or 7GB respectively.
At the moment, Samsung and Acer have built Chromebooks with each manufacturer having a couple of models available. Full details of pricing and the various chromebook devices available can be found over on the Chromebook website.
If you’re not familiar with the Chromebook, Google has created an OS that utilizes the web to run the applications. This means that updates are automatic and that if you lose or break your chromebook, you’ll simply be able to log on to another device and carry on working where you left off.
Typical specs of the chromebooks include an Intel Atom Dual-Core CPU, full sized keyboard, mini VGA, 4 in 1 memory card slot, USB, HD webcam and WiFi with optional 3G if desired. Screen sizes on each are around the 12 inch range with Acer being slightly less than 12 inches and Samsung being just over 12 inches (12.1).
Expect more devices to follow over the coming months.
