Google has made changes to Gmail calling that allows those in the US Military to get free phone calls back to the US from where they currently serve. To get access requires that you are using a .mil email address.
To be able to make free calls you need to add your .mil address to your Google account. When added, you’ll then be able to make calls from within Gmail after installing the voice and video Gmail plugin.
It isn’t known at the moment how long Google will keep this offer open, but they have provided a date saying .mil free calls will last at least to the end of 2011.
Full details along with some calling prices for US to call back can be found on an official Google blog post found over here.
