Apple has announced that the iOS 4.3 release date will be March 11. Several updates are included in this version which includes the new Personal Hotspot feature that we have seen before in the beta versions as well as on the Verizon iPhone 4.
We also see that Apple has increased the performance of the Safari browser and made improvements to AirPlay.
For compatibility, you need to be running one of the following devices:
iPhone 3GS
iPhone 4 (GSM model)
iPad
iPad 2
3rd gen iPod touch
4th gen iPod touch.
The Personal Hotspot feature is available for the iPhone 4 only and to use it, you need to check with your own carrier what options they have available. It is expected that most will charge for you to use this service.
On to the iTunes Home Sharing, this service in iOS 4.3 allows music and video to be played over a wireless network from your Mac to an iPad for example. This basically means that you don’t have to have each device crammed to the limit with all your content to enjoy any of it, instead, you can store your favorites on your iOS device and then stream anything else over WiFi to it.
Overall, quite a decent update that will land the day the iPad 2 launches in the US. One downside is that the gesture controls have been removed although these could be released at a later date.
