ultrasn0w has received an update which now brings it up to version 1.2.5. Along with that update comes more support for unlocking devices running the iOS 5.0.1 operating system.
Although unlocking is never as easy as just installing ultrasn0w on new devices, it does work for those who have preserved their baseband from an older iOS.
For those running an iPhone 3GS, the following basebands can be unlocked:
04.26.08 – 05.11.07 – 05.12.01 – 05.13.04 – 06.15.00
Those with an iPhone 4 can unlock the 01.59.00 baseband.
To unlock an iPhone you’ll need to make sure you don’t upgrade the usual way to a newer iOS. A tool such as sn0wbreeze will need to be used so that you can update the firmware without updating the baseband. This is beyond the scope of this article though.
