Over the past year there’s been several indications that Microsoft [MSFT] will be launching a new version of Office for iOS devices. Although nothing has been made available yet by Microsoft, a new job opening strongly hints that Microsoft is preparing the new app for launch.
The text in the job description asks for someone to join the Outlook Test Team. The candidate will work closely with the development team that it working on the next move to Mac and iOS.
It isn’t made clear (of course) when Microsoft will launch a version of Office for the iPad, but there are certainly enough iOS tablets and phones out there for Microsoft to want to do something. There have been other attempts to bring Excel, Word and PowerPoint to the iPad in various forms such as spreadsheet and document editors by 3rd party apps as well as virtual machines like CloudOn that let you log in to a remote server and access full desktop versions while on the move.
Having an official native Office app for the iPad will certainly sell well though, so expect to hear more about this over the coming year.
