Kevin Rose from Digg has suggested that the iPad 2 could be announced within the next 3 to 4 weeks, possibly on February 1st. As well as providing the announcement date for the next generation Apple Tablet, he also suggests that it won’t have a Retina display. The lack of Retina display falls in line with what we have seen before around the web.
Although the iPad 2 is expected to be announced in the next few weeks, we still believe it will be launching towards the end of March or early in April to follow on a year from when the original iPad was announced. Kevin’s words add to various other iPad 2 rumors.
I have it on good authority that Apple will be announcing the iPad 2 in the next “3-4 weeks”, possibly Tuesday February 1st. The iPad 2 will feature a retina display and front/back camera
UPDATE: Spoke w/another source, the display has a “higher dpi”, but not technically a retina display. This seems odd to me, we’ll have to wait and see..
Although Kevin says it seems odd that it wont have a Retina Display (although a higher res display than the current model)… some numbers provided a few months back hint that if the iPad 2 was to use the same pixel density as the iPhone 4 that it would have 2560 x 1440 pixels which is the same amount as a 27 inch iMac. This point alone makes us think that this might be a bit too much for the iPad to handle although we wouldn’t complain if Apple was to achieve this.
Expect to hear more over the next few weeks about the next gen iPad.
