iPhone 3G S Announced – S = Speed

Apple have announced the latest release of the much rumoured new iPhone. It is named the iPhone 3G S where S = Speed. Although not much at all has changed with the look of the phone there are certainly some nice improvements to the innards in terms of new software features with the largest enhancement being the speed.

iPhone 3G S Features

* Most powerful iPhone ever made. Roughly 2x faster overall.
* 7.2Mbps HSDPA Supported
* Excel is 3.6x faster
* Games run 2.4x faster
* 3 Megapixel Camera with Auto-focus. A flick switch can move between video and picture mode.
* To focus you can tap anywhere on the screen to focus on that point.
* Camera has low light sensitivity and macro down to 10cm away along with auto white balance. Audio can be included too.
* VGA quality videos at 30fps.
* MMS available as long as your data carrier supports it.
* Voice control for making calls and controlling iTunes.
* New Digital Compass included that also works on Google maps to correctly orientate the map.
* Voice over will talk what ever you touch onscreen.
* Nike+ is now integrated.
* Hardware Encryption to be included on the iPhone 3G S.
* 5 hrs 3G talk time and 12 hours of 2G talk time with 9 hours of internet over wi-fi (Impressive!!)
* 10 hours of video playback and 30 hours of audio (impressive again)

I have to say that this is an impressive new set of features and although it is identical to the 3G in looks, the iPhone 3GS certainly has moved things forward.

The 16GB version of the iPhone 3G S will cost $199 when launched with the price going up to $299 for the 32GB iPhone 3G S. The launch day for the new iPhone 3GS will be 19th June in the US, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and Spain with 80 other countries shortly following by August.

If for any reason you want to buy a new iPhone 3G (not the 3G S) then the 16GB model will now cost $99.
