We thought that with the iPhone 4 announcement out of the way (with no Verizon announcement) that we’d hear the end of it till next year when the iPhone 5 gets announced. However, Bloomberg has kept the rumours alive by saying that Verizon [VZ] will get the iPhone in January 2011.
Of course you need to take this rumour with a pinch of salt as we keep on hearing it over and over with no announcement or indication that it’s happening. I’m not saying it wont happen eventually, but for now it seems like the AT&T [T] and Apple [AAPL] agreement that runs till 2012 is still firmly in place sadly.
‘Our component and distribution checks indicate that Apple is likely to begin production of a CDMA iPhone, possibly with LTE support, in 4Q10 for launch at Verizon in January 2011, perhaps at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), analyst Ben Reitzes wrote. ‘We believe Apple’s U.S. unit volume is likely to grow from 11 million units in 2010 to at least 15 million in 2011 as a result, with 9 million at Verizon and 6 million at AT&T. We also believe Apple may launch the device in other CDMA markets, in particular China with China Telecom.
There are many who would love to see a Verizon iPhone 4 (or 3GS for that matter) but right now we just keep hearing the same speculation over and over.
What are your thoughts? Will we see an iPhone early on the Verizon network? All Things D report that exclusivity ends at the end of this year rather than 2012 from what we understand. I’m sure we’ll find out in January 2011 if this is correct.
