An update to the LG Optimus 3D is currently in the pipeline and getting ready for a launch next year. The new device, called the Optimus 3D 2, will likely be slimmed down to just 7mm thick.
An exact release date isn’t known at the moment although LG confirmed to Pocket-Lint that it will be arriving sometime in 2012.
“These days, all the phones look the same. They have a huge screen – 4.3-inches is normal these days – and next year they’re moving even larger. And they have a fixed number of touch buttons. They’re the same thickness. They have the same camera. And even the same OS. It’s so boring.”
Although slimming the 3D phone down to 7mm would be great, we’d also like more content available by the time the next gen version launches. Although we liked the 3D aspect of the Optimus 3D, we also found that the lack of 3D content could also make it more of a novelty idea rather than a function you’d use every day.
We’ll get more details as they are announced (probably early next year).
